Construction Worker General

Position Overview Performs tasks involving physical labor at building construction projects. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials. Duties and Responsibilities • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects. • Unload, carry, place, and secure with tie wire concrete reinforcing steel and accessories. • Manually excavates and fills trenches and ditches. • Handles and stores materials. • Placement and finishing of concrete utilizing hand and power tools including troweling machines. • Preparations for concrete pour including installing embedded items and cleaning. • Concrete patching, repairing, and rubbing. • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specs, for molding concrete structures. • Gate attendant: Mans entry and egress gates to control jobsite. • Assist in demolishing activities. • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers. • Operate electric powered tools. • Signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance. • Operate large powered machinery and equipment. • Follow safety rules. Education and Training • High school education or equivalent preferred. • 6 months to one year of construction experience. • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Some knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in heavy construction work. • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule. • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. • Ability to meet punctuality and attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Position Overview Vaughn Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager. Vaughn is one of the largest construction companies in Texas focused on building academic, healthcare, civic, and research buildings for commercial clients. The Assistant Project Manager assists the Project Manager and Project Superintendent in providing the overall administrative and technical direction of a project. Duties/Responsibilities • Works with Project Manager to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with contract, design, budget, and schedule requirements. • Communicates with the Owner and Design team to solve problems and facilitate construction activities. • Direct oversight and training of project engineers to maintain project logs, documentation files, RFI's. • Leads and represents Vaughn in project meetings. • Cost-Control experience. • Exposure to contract negotiation. • Assists with financial aspects of the project - Pay Applications, Cost Reporting, Cost Projections. • Contributes to project buyout process including scope verification and budget development. • Prepares Subcontracts and Purchase Orders. • Participates in safety programs. • Proficiency in Primavera scheduling software. Position Overview Our superintendents provide overall on-site field supervision for the project site, working with the project management team to develop site logistics plan, job site communications plan, and project procedures. Also inspects construction activities to ensure compliance with established quality procedures and compliance with project plans, specifications, and shop drawings, inspects trade and associated installations, trains assistants and ensures all onsite personnel comply with project procedures. This position does supervise the work of others including construction workers, foremen, assistant superintendent trainees, assistant superintendents, and trade contractor employees. Duties/Responsibilities • Develop a clear and concise site logistics, lifting, hoisting, deliveries and site access plan. • Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents. • Know, understand and consistently enforce Vaughn's safety program and OSHA rules. • Provide technical assistance, e.g. interpretation of drawings, recommended construction methods and equipment, etc. as required. • Actively coordinate trade and associated installations in advance to mitigate conflicts due to sequencing, constructability, schedule and/or spatial issues. • Review plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties. • Promote positive communication among employees and works as a team with project management, QA/QC and safety coworkers. • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc. • Help create and sustain a positive company image. • Assist in effectively training assistants and workers to adhere to policies/procedures, submittals, schedules, contracting and motivating assistants to uphold core values by leading through example. • Develop professional relationship with client and design team to ensure project is delivered successfully. • Ensure all on-site personnel comply with the project procedures. • Exhibit strong organization skills to ensure projects are completed on • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of time sheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports and labor projections. • Ensure work performed follows company policies and procedures. • Work integrally with project management team on status reports, and labor and material projections. • Develop and maintain schedule to ensure coordinated and timely installations. Education and Training • Minimum 10 years of experience as a project superintendent with a construction management-at-risk, hard bid, or design-build contractor, overseeing multiple projects with per project value in excess of $10 million. • Experience with healthcare, higher education, and/or laboratory projects with a commercial general contractor preferred. • Experience with self-performing work in excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry. • Profitable project track-record. • Beat-the-budget self-perform labor track record.
