Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our Pullman WA based Machining and Fabrication team. Experience level will determine job title. In this position, you will be programming, setting up, operating, and inspecting parts for CNC mills and lathes. You will also be assisting with team training and development, as well as supporting continuous improvement projects. The SEL Machine Shop supports a wide range of internal customers, producing low to high complexity parts out of materials that range from soft plastics, composites, to hardened tool steel and others as requested. We are looking for a talented CNC Machinist who has programming experience, who not only fits the technical role, but also fits our SEL values as outlined in our Principles of Operation. The ideal candidate will be an excellent problem solver, self-driven to improve in their craft, and willing to learn a broad range of machining skills and technologies. As a Machinist, a typical day will include the following: • Under limited supervision, use manual and CNC machining equipment to produce parts of moderate complexity. • Perform preventive maintenance on shop equipment. • Create basic to moderate CNC programs with a CAD/CAM system. • Provide design feedback and training to engineering and other staff on basic to moderate design projects. • Adhere to all shop safety procedures. • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. • Understand. Working from part prints, process sheets, quality documentation, and CAD models to produce precision components to print. The Swiss Machinist promotes a work environment that is positive, safe, seeks to continuously improve, and is focused on meeting the goals and objectives of the organization. Cnc Swiss/Mill Turn Machinist Essential Functions Level I • Basic shop math skills. • Ability to read blueprints, work instructions, and inspection criteria. • Must be proficient in the use of standard inspection equipment. • Basic understanding of GD&T. Level II • Review complex drawings and GT&D. • Program and troubleshoot complex tool paths. • Troubleshoot complicated process issues independently. • Support training of Level I Machinist and Operators. • Work independently and in a team environment. • Work with other departments on projects, designs, and process improvements. Level III • Program, set-up, run parts, inspect, and make adjustments to produce conforming parts with no supervision. • Support Discovery and Engineering on rapid prototyping and urgent request. • Write and implement Macros. • Support and train new employees on work order line clearances to reduce any delays to downstream processes. • Mentor new employees and evaluate training requirements to meet KPI targets. • Monitor Hourly Productivity & Quality report and take action to resolve issues to meet daily targets. • Participate in daily KPI meeting focused on identifying and resolving issues impacting ability to meet daily and weekly targets. Education CNC SWISS/MILL TURN MACHINIST EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Level I • High School Diploma or equivalent required. • Completion of trade school preferred. • 1-2 years’ experience setting-up and operate Swiss style and Mill turn machines required. Level II • High School Diploma or equivalent required. • Completion of trade school preferred. • 3-5 years’ experience programming, setting-up and operate Swiss style and Mill turn machines required. Level III • High School Diploma or equivalent required. • Completion of trade school preferred. • 6+ years’ experience programming, setting-up and operate Swiss style and Mill turn machines required. • Advanced programming experience required; Partmaker/Esprit experience preferred.
