CNC Machinist Apprentice

The CNC Machinist Apprentice is an entry-level position designed for individuals looking to begin or advance a career in CNC machining. This role provides hands-on training and mentorship in a high-mix, low-volume production environment, supporting Hammerton’s Machine Shop in maintaining steady production flow and high-quality output. The Apprentice will assist with daily machine operation, setup support, material handling, and general shop organization under the direction of the Machine Shop Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Support daily CNC machining operations by loading and unloading parts, verifying basic dimensions, and ensuring machines run efficiently. • Assist with machine setups and tooling changes as directed by senior machinist or the Machine Shop Manager. • Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning machines, checking fluid levels, and maintaining a safe, organized workspace. • Accurately measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and other basic measuring instruments. • Prepare raw materials and stock for machining, including deburring, labeling, and organizing work orders. • Follow all company safety standards, procedures, and best practice in all work areas. • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and safety. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: • High School Diploma or GED. • Trade school coursework or training in achining, manufacturing, or related mechanical fields preferred. • Will to train candidates serious about starting a career in CNC machining. QUALIFICATIONS: • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in recision manufacturing. • Ability to read and interpret basic shop drawings and follow written or verbal instructions. • Basic understanding of measurement tools and shop math. • Reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn from experienced machinists. • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs as required. CAREER PATH & DEVELOPMENT: This role is intended as a pathway into CNC machining at Hammerton. Apprentices demonstrating commitment, skill development, and initiative will have opportunities for advancement into CNC Operator and eventually CNC Machinist roles, including programming and setup responsibilities. WORKING CONDITIONS: • This position works primarily in a Fabrication shop which includes high level of noise, welding • flashes, grinding dust, and oils and lubricants. • This position requires the employees to have the ability to consistently lift up to 50 lbs. • All employees are required to participate in 5s activities that include keeping the shop as clean as • possible.

Experience Preferred: • Machinist Certification from an accredited Trade School • Experience with Fanuc Controller preferred Primary Level Salary Range: $51,200.00 - $85,400.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $60,800.00 - $101,400.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
