Manual Machinist

Job Title: Manual Machinist Job Description As a Manual Machinist, you will play a crucial role in processing components using manual lathes and ensuring safe and efficient operation of machinery. You will be responsible for maintaining the workspace and equipment while adhering to safety standards. Responsibilities • Maneuver large, awkward, or heavy parts manually or with equipment and operate manual lathes to process components. • Install machine fixtures to ensure safe operation of the machine. • Maintain machine and work area in a clean and safe manner. • Check and inspect operation against predetermined tolerances. • Adopt a learning and flexibility approach to expanding knowledge to Computer Numerical Control machines. • Work in other areas or departments as assigned. Essential Skills • Proficiency as a manual machinist. • Experience with saw, tape measure, band saw, drilling, tapping, coating, painting, grinding, sanding, assembly, polishing, and metal finishing. What your day may look like: • Read and understand technical drawings from purchase orders or verbal instructions. • Under limited supervision, set up and operate precision machines such as CNC, Press, CMM, FARO Arm, Milling Machine, Band Saw, Shear etc. • Work closely with engineers and other manufacturing professionals to ensure the production of high-quality machined and fabricated parts. • Ensure that all processes and outputs meet the required specifications and quality standards. • Secure and deburr girders and truck frames to ensure smooth edges and surfaces. • Assemble and disassemble wheelsets with precision and care. • Accurately measure girders, truck components, and wheel sets to meet specifications. • Perform daily maintenance and cleaning of machines and work areas according to established checklists. • Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and others to resolve machining or assembly issues efficiently.
