Full Job Description POSITION SUMMARY:Franklin Armory, Inc. is seeking a reliable, hard-working Machinist for our growing company. Must be a self-starting team player with a good work ethic. In this role, you will be responsible for some setups and proving new processes on our 3-axis vertical mills, our 5th-axis vertical mill, our Horizontal mill, NTX Mill-Turn and occasional CNC programming. As a valuable part of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting our operators with repeatable, sound setups. At the same time, observing the highest standards of safety and quality. You must be reliable, punctual, and able to perform repetitive tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: · Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers or vernier calipers. · Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. · Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools for precision machining operations. · Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines. · Measure, examine, or test completed units using precision instruments such as micrometers to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications. · Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. · Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition. · Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products. · Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency. · Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled. · Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools. · Diagnose machine tool malfunctions to determine the need for adjustments or repairs. · Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs. · Confer with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information. · Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display the placement of cuts. · Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools. · Set up or operate metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding, or cutting equipment. · Confer with numerical control programmers to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly and that output will meet specifications. · Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics knowledge. · Dispose of scrap or waste material following company policies and environmental regulations. · Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal. · Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability. · Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products using a variety of metalworking machines. · Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand or power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed. · Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment. · Work cooperatively with other team members to meet quotas and goals. · Observe safety guidelines and report concerns to management in a timely fashion. Desirable Qualifications: · 5 – 7 years of CNC Machinist experience. · In addition to having 3-5 axis knowledge, previous experience in lathe and mill-turn would be beneficial but not required. · NTX Mill-Turn is a plus. · Mechanically inclined, self-starter. · Ability to follow Complex and Multiple instructions. Language Skills: Must be able to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Bearing Repair Technician/Manual Machinist The Bearing Repair Technician is the most important piece of our operation. They take ownership of the entire repair process from start to finish. They perform a detailed incoming inspection using micrometers and other fine measurement tools, learn to draw prints based on their findings and make recommendations on necessary critical repairs. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, CNC machines, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. During the babbitting process they move the part to our custom foundry where they apply new babbitt using various casting techniques. Once the babbitt is cast, their skill at precision machining and metalworking outputs a finished bearing crafted to precise dimensions. Using non-destructive testing techniques and measurement tools they verify the quality and dimensions of their work before preparing the bearing to ship to the customer.
