Machinist Job Title: Machinist - CNC Routing & Paint Line Operations Division: BDS Express Location: Rochester, MN Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (40+ hours per week) Salary: $26.20 - $33.15 per hour (Performance-Based Pay) Lunch: 30-Minute Unpaid Lunch Break (Mandatory) Breaks: Two 15-Minute Paid Breaks (Mandatory) Company Overview: BDS Contract Door & Hardware Co. is a leading national distributor and integrated solutions provider specializing in commercial construction. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist to operate a CNC door routing machine, UV paint line, and CNC robotic paint machine in our production facility. The ideal candidate will have experience with CNC machinery, including routing, painting, and finishing, as well as expertise in mixing paints and stains to achieve customer-specific color and finish requirements. This position requires attention to detail, precision, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities • CNC Routing Machine Operation: Operate and maintain CNC door routing machines to cut, shape, and finish doors and frames to precise specifications. Ensure machines are properly calibrated and functioning. • UV Paint Line Operation: Manage the UV paint curing line, applying UV coatings to doors and frames. Ensure proper setup, monitoring, and maintenance of the system for consistent finish quality. • CNC Robotic Paint Machine Operation: Program and operate CNC robotic paint machines for automated painting applications. Ensure that the system applies paint or stains evenly and efficiently according to specifications. • Paint & Stain Mixing: Mix custom paints and stains to meet customer color specifications. Prepare and adjust formulas to achieve the desired finish, ensuring consistency and high-quality results. • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for quality, checking for defects or imperfections in the routing, paint, and overall finish. Ensure that all products meet the required standards before they are sent out for delivery or further assembly. • Material Preparation: Prepare raw materials (e.g., doors, frames) for routing and painting processes. This may include cleaning, sanding, and pre-finishing to ensure a smooth application. • Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines, UV paint lines, and robotic paint machines to ensure continued safe operation and avoid downtime. • Efficiency & Productivity: Work efficiently to meet production quotas and deadlines. Prioritize tasks to ensure that all projects are completed on time and to the highest standards. • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and organized work area to comply with company safety policies. • Documentation: Keep accurate records of production runs, paint mixtures, and machine settings. Report any issues or quality concerns to supervisors immediately. Required Qualifications • Experience: 2+ years of experience operating CNC machines, UV paint lines, and robotic paint equipment, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment. • Technical Skills: Experience with CNC routing machines, robotic painting systems, and UV curing systems. Strong knowledge of machine operation, setup, and troubleshooting. • Paint Mixing: Knowledge of mixing paints and stains, including understanding of color theory, formulations, and how different materials react to coatings. • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and customer specifications. • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to diagnose and resolve machine or production issues. • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure precision in both the routing and painting processes. • Safety Awareness: A strong commitment to safety practices, including the use of PPE and adherence to workplace safety regulations. • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move materials, operate machinery for long periods, and work in a manufacturing environment. • Teamwork: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with production teams and supervisors Preferred Qualifications • Certifications: Formal training or certification in CNC machining, industrial painting systems, or robotics is a plus. • Experience with Robotic Systems: Familiarity with programming and operating robotic paint systems, including troubleshooting and maintenance. • Paint Finishing Expertise: Experience in high-quality finishes, particularly for doors and frames, is preferred. • Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve issues related to paint finishes, machine malfunctions, and production delays efficiently. Work Environment This role is based in a climate-controlled and very clean environment. Employees will be required to wear company-supplied smocks and ESD equipment. The hours are divided into three shifts: 1st Shift runs from 6am-4pm (Monday to Thursday), 2nd Shift from 3:45pm-1:45am (Monday to Thursday), and the Weekend Shift from 6am-6pm (Friday to Sunday). Shift differentials apply, adding 15% for the 2nd Shift and 11% for the Weekend Shift. Why Work Here?
