Manual Machinist

Machinist I Department: Machine Shop Reports to: Shop Supervisor Location: Port Arthur BASIC SCOPE/PURPOSE: The Machinist I will report to the Site Supervisor. The job duties consist of running various shop machines including lathes, mill machines, horizontal, milling, drilling, boring, grinding, etc. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Calculate dimensions & tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments. • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. • Operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining. • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. • Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as necessary. • Quality assurance. Inspect machinery for needed repairs, documents them, make minor repairs. • Maintain log of time spent on jobs. • Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean work area and shop. • Read and use machinist scales and indicators. • Follow and adhere to all safety rules, regulations. Wear appropriate PPE. • Follow and adhere to all quality protocols. • Has the knowledge and ability to run multiple machines in the shop independently without any assistance or training. • Ability to effectively train other Machinist Apprentice or Machinist II employees on various machines. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. • Ability to work overtime as needed. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: • High School Diploma/GED and/or Equivalent work experience • Manufacturing or shop experience (8-10 years) • Ability to read and interpret blueprints. • Read and write English; demonstrated command of basic math skills; read and interpret measuring devices, read and interpret drawings. • Convert fractions to decimals, able to read machinist scales. • Ability to communicate clearly and work well with a team. • Strong work ethic and initiative. • Technical Skill and Competence. Sr CNC Machinist

Description: Specific Duties And Responsibilities: Demonstrate safe work practices in accordance with the Client Safety Program, OSHA and EPA. Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc. Writes complex programs for multiple axis lathes, milling and drilling machines (4 or 5 axis). Collaborates with Manufacturing Engineers or works independently to develop manufacturing/machining processes from drawings to create a part that meets specifications at lowest cost. Creates tool drawings and set-up sheets for the machine operators. Determines proper tooling to be used for various required base metals. Establishes optimum feeds and speeds. Understands the effects of these variables on the machining process. Troubleshoots manufacturing problems to determine if issue is a process problem versus a machine issue. Must understand and work with multiple models of machine tools and manufacturer's controls. Designs fixtures to hold parts on a specific machine. Ability to manage software, files, solid models and other interfaces associated with programming software. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, stock pushers and indicating vices. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards. Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Preferred: GibbsCam Renishaw probing Macros G-code & CAM software i.e Mastercam software Haas and Okuma machines and tooling experience Education: Requires that the employee have at least a H. S. Diploma or G.E.D equivalent. Associates degree in a technical field with 2 years' experience in programming or minimum of 5 years equivalent industry experience. Advanced training, certification, education a plus. Experience and Skills Required: The position must have proven experience as a CNC operator with minimal supervision, and must be willing to work with others that they interact with to resolve problems and meet customer requirements The employee must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Must be able to read and comprehend general business documents, computer printouts, and drawings. Must have strong organizational skills, a desire to learn, and be detail oriented. Must demonstrate ability to handle new and changing tasks, follow instructions and defined procedures, and show a willingness to learn. Must be able to work well with others and be a productive team member. Work Conditions: Extended hours and/or overtime may be required based on workload.
