OVERVIEW: As a Machinist, you’ll operate a variety of shop equipment, with a primary focus on Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL)— including conventional lathes, milling machines, horizontal mills, drills, borers, and grinders. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Calculate dimensions & tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments. • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. • Operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining. • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. • Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as necessary. • Quality assurance. Inspect machinery for needed repairs, documents them, make minor repairs. • Maintain log of time spent on jobs. • Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean work area and shop. • Read and use machinist scales and indicators. • Follow and adhere to all safety rules, regulations. Wear appropriate PPE. • Follow and adhere to all quality protocols. • Has the knowledge and ability to run multiple machines in the shop independently without any assistance or training. • Ability to effectively train other Machinist Apprentice or Machinist II employees on various machines. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. • Ability to work overtime as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma/GED and/or Equivalent work experience • Manufacturing or shop experience (8-10 years) • Ability to read and interpret blueprints. • Read and write English; demonstrated command of basic math skills; read and interpret measuring devices, read and interpret drawings. • Convert fractions to decimals, able to read machinist scales. • Ability to communicate clearly and work well with a team. • Strong work ethic and initiative. • Technical Skill and Competence. Outside Machinist 1st Class

Outside Machinist 1st Class Location: Port Arthur Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. • Must be able to understand and perform the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of the following using safe rigging and handling practices: • Steam Turbines • Centrifugal Pumps • Reciprocating and Vertical Pumps • Gear Boxes • Marine drive trains • Align machines and equipment, to specified tolerances with minimal supervision, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and indicators. • Lay out, drill, and tap mounting holes, using measuring instruments, • Level bedplates and establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit. • Fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified components, using interference fit by means of pressing or portable gas heating equipment and or cryogenics. • Use precision measuring instruments to make measurements within specified tolerances. • Write condition reports for each job performed. Required Education & Experience: • High School Diploma and/or one year certificate from college or technical school preferred. • Industrial and/or marine equipment repair experience: • 1st Class: 3-5 years • 2nd Class: 1-3 years Working Conditions: • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc. • Must wear hearing, eye, and head protection. • Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. • Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials. • Aboard ships, both on and offshore. • Some travel required.
