HVAC Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary The University is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to join its Facilities Management team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the proper operation of HVAC mechanical systems across campus. Key Responsibilities • Respond to service calls and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems. • Assist with testing systems for proper operation, diagnosing problems and malfunctions, and maintaining, repairing and replacing parts and equipment. This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency or university closure. The successful candidate will possess excellent technical skills and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Requirements • Three years of experience working with HVAC systems, including air handlers, pumps and associated mechanical equipment, or possess a current State of Idaho HVAC Journeyman's license. • Possess a valid driver's license and meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles. • Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotation. • Be at least 18 years of age. Additional preferred qualifications include holding a HVAC trade vocational certificate and having experience in maintaining and repairing air handler units, fan coil units, fume hoods and unit heaters, installing commercial air handling equipment and associated ductwork, maintaining pumps, valves, air compressors and electric motors, and using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with HVAC mechanical repair and service. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time. • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts. • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds. • Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). • Work in inclement weather conditions. • Participate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test.
