HVAC Technician (Search Continued)

Facilities Management and Planning at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is seeking applications for a full-time HVAC Technician position to begin in October of 2013.Basic Functions and Responsibilities: To perform skilled mechanical work on heat pumps, split systems and large tonnage chillers. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: ~Read and work from blueprints, shop drawings and schematics. ~Perform electrical and plumbing work related to refrigeration and temperature control equipment. ~Work with all types of refrigerants, gases, welding equipment, tools and test equipment. ~Make all necessary tests and calibration for installation, maintenance and repair of equipment. ~Maintain operation and control of air handling systems. ~Install and maintain all types of air conditioning, refrigeration and temperature controls equipment. ~Physical demands of the position are heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, climbing, and bending flexibility. ~Must be able to work safely in varying temperature extremes since equipment is often located on roof tops and other unconditioned spaces. Safely work off ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other types of lifts. ~Submit material requisition for supplies for individual jobs. ~ Must be able to work independently. ~ Must perform all work in a safe and professional manner. ~ Primary hours will be 7:00am to 4:00pm. Supervision Received From: General supervision is received from an assigned supervisor. Required Qualifications: High School degree. Minimum two years experience in Refrigeration/Air conditioning service. A valid driver's license is required. Must have strong human relation abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrate leadership capabilities. Must be E.P.A Certified. HVAC Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities • Performs repairs on all types HVAC system equipment and controls. • Develops and monitors the effectiveness and performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems and controls. • Performs repairs on refrigeration equipment in accordance with EPA regulations. • Performs, develops and monitors the effectiveness of preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment. • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on other equipment and systems such as Medical Gas and Vacuum systems, fire detection and alarm systems, Energy Plant equipment and systems, and other facilities equipment and systems. • Locates and purchases repair parts, maintain inventory consistent with budget and priority of equipment maintained consistent with the appropriate management approvals and policies. • Completes special projects such as installation, relocation or removal of equipment. • Cross trains other staff members in area of expertise. • Counsels or trains equipment users on proper operation and hazards of systems and equipment. • Documents work orders in the equipment management information system data base. • Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and systems components that are included in the Utility Management Program. • Prepares reports as required by Leadership using information system data. • Coordinates repair of equipment and systems performed by outside contractors and documents work completed in facility management information system data base. • Coordinates repairs and other service work with customer’s schedule. Responds quickly to requests of departments utilizing our services and provides timely status reports about condition of equipment being serviced. • Participates in continuing educational and development programs to improve knowledge, maintain competency, and improve productivity. • Maintains positive working relationships with customers and other staff members. • Participates in section, departmental and cross functional mission, quality improvement and productivity improvement projects and programs. • Participates in other duties as assigned. • Operates Facility Energy Management System (BAS). • Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department Qualifications Minimum Requirements: • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment and systems is preferred. • High School graduate or equivalent. • Ability to properly troubleshoot electrical control circuits, Automation system repair knowledge preferred, must be able to effectively work with pneumatic controlled equipment. • Must have the versatility to fill other related positons, as applicable. • Valid Driver's License.
