Facilities Management and Planning at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is seeking applications for a full-time HVAC Technician position to begin in October of 2013.Basic Functions and Responsibilities: To perform skilled mechanical work on heat pumps, split systems and large tonnage chillers. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: ~Read and work from blueprints, shop drawings and schematics. ~Perform electrical and plumbing work related to refrigeration and temperature control equipment. ~Work with all types of refrigerants, gases, welding equipment, tools and test equipment. ~Make all necessary tests and calibration for installation, maintenance and repair of equipment. ~Maintain operation and control of air handling systems. ~Install and maintain all types of air conditioning, refrigeration and temperature controls equipment. ~Physical demands of the position are heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, climbing, and bending flexibility. ~Must be able to work safely in varying temperature extremes since equipment is often located on roof tops and other unconditioned spaces. Safely work off ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other types of lifts. ~Submit material requisition for supplies for individual jobs. ~ Must be able to work independently. ~ Must perform all work in a safe and professional manner. ~ Primary hours will be 7:00am to 4:00pm. Supervision Received From: General supervision is received from an assigned supervisor. Required Qualifications: High School degree. Position Details Position Information Working Title Construction Tech, HVAC Brief Summary of Job Description The Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the general maintenance and construction needs of the campus buildings and facilities. This position provides direct supervision over the UNK construction team, which includes construction planning, estimating, hiring, training, evaluation and retention issues Job Duties As part of the overall campus construction team, this position will act as the lead on construction projects that focus on HVAC related tasks. This position will provide oversight and coordination of all work activities, including but not limited to, layout/design, estimating, material ordering, work scheduling, permitting, and the installation and maintenance of HVAC components. As the lead, this position will engage with requesting departments to understand, guide, plan, and implement the desired outcome. For non-HVAC construction projects, this position will assist other team members, acting in similar lead roles for their specific trades, as needed to perform a multitude of construction activities. These activities may include tasks related to electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and other trades connected to the construction industry. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED; Must have at least five years' experience in commercial HVAC service and installation, including considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices related to the HVAC trade. Requires an EPA Section 608 Technician Certification and a valid Nebraska State Driver's License. Must be willing to assist other trades as needed to contribute to the overall construction team. Preferred Qualifications At least two years' experience supervising an HVAC crew in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC systems and components.
