Refrigeration Technician$32 - $42/hour! Job Description The Boiler Operator/Refrigeration Repairman II is responsible for maintaining, repairing, rebuilding, and adjusting plant refrigeration, boiler, water, and compressed air systems. This role involves analyzing, calibrating, replacing, repairing, and rebuilding all equipment and machinery within established guidelines. The employee will learn to use and operate industrial shop equipment and machinery. Responsibilities • Start-up, shut down, adjust, and repair plant refrigeration and boiler equipment to operate at established plant performance standards. • Read, interpret, and understand manufacturers’ equipment manuals and operating procedures. • Complete work orders and follow safety procedures. • Maintain daily engine and boiler room log sheets. • Work as a team to plan and conduct equipment repairs. • Conduct routine audits and equipment inspections. • Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities. • Respond to unplanned/emergency work requests in a timely and effective manner. • Follow good manufacturing practices. Essential Skills • Boiler maintenance • Preventive maintenance • Repair • Refrigeration equipment maintenance • Maintenance technician • Ammonia refrigeration system maintenance • Refrigeration • Ammonia • HVAC • Troubleshooting Additional Skills & Qualifications • Ability to wear company-required Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, safety shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, air purifying respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus, and level A chemical suit as part of the Emergency Response Team. • Must be able to pass a lung function test to be certified to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus or gas mask, which requires no facial hair in areas where the face mask seals against the face. • Required to be clean shaven if trained in the use of and required to use a respirator. • Ability to be HAZMAT trained and a member of the HAZMAT team. • Ability to be lockout/tagout, PIT, and confined space certified. • Proficiency in language skills, mathematical skills, reasoning ability, and computer skills. Work Environment • The work schedule consists of 4 days on and 4 days off, with shifts running from 6 am to 6 pm or 6 pm to 6 am. • Fast-paced, team-oriented work environment focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Responsible for aiding in coordinating environmental control activities, including air, water, PSM processes and programs. Leads the refrigeration, boiler operator and wastewater team to effectively maintain the ammonia system, HVAC systems, boiler equipment and wastewater while meeting safety, reliability, budget, environmental and quality goals. DAILY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for supervising, coaching, training, and evaluating refrigeration, boiler, and wastewater team. • Lead and develop the refrigeration and boiler team to meet department goals in facility maintenance, assist in capital improvements and budget management. • Evaluate hazards within the Complex for environmental risks and implement new policies or procedures to mitigate identified hazards. • Ensure that all OSHA and PSM standards are maintained in a timely and accurate manner by the instruction of PSM coordinator or manager. • Provide suggestions for correctable measures when downtime results from mechanical or technical defects. • Prioritize work orders, schedule, and direct maintenance workforce as necessary. • Sustain and improve assigned work orders and maintain appropriate documentation for all work performed. • Participate in Hazmat operations and emergency preparedness. • Identify opportunities for improvement and communicate with leaders and assigned personnel on enacting those potential changes. • Observe and enforce all personnel, quality, and food safety policies. • Ensure all company safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe working environment by promoting, adhering to, and holding employees accountable to those policies. • Provide detailed and constructive feedback to employees during their shift on their performance and attitude. • Communicate equipment issues and plans of repair to production supervisors and managers. • Attend meetings and training as required. • Effectively communicate with HR and other supporting departments if conflict or dilemmas arise with employees in your charge. • Manage employee timecards and time off requests. • Perform employee disciplinary actions, including verbal, written, and suspension paperwork and all other required documentation. • All other duties not listed but requested by Refrigeration Management, Senior Leadership, and Human Resources. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: • MUST possess a minimum of two years’ work experience in an industrial refrigeration field, including previous supervisory or management experience. • MUST be familiar with refrigeration maintenance requirements and standards. • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve mechanical problems. • MUST have knowledge of food safety programs, including HACCP programs, SSOP’s and GMP’s. • MUST possess skills in communicating in a courteous and professional manner, both verbally and in writing to all team members. • Ability to motivate team members to drive and achieve production goals as well as be responsible for performance management of your team including goal setting and providing performance reviews yearly. • MUST have exceptional time management and prioritizing skills. • MUST know how to effectively utilize a personal computer and a variety of software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. • MUST be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. • Must be able to pass required physical including demonstrating your ability to lift the required weight for each position. • Ability to stand or walk for an entire 8-hour shift. • Ability to reflect the values of our company in public settings. • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
