HVAC Mechanic

SUMMARY The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, services and cleans all types of residential, commercial, and industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment and related systems to include supplied high temperature and chilled water systems up to 3 million BTU heating and 50 ton cooling. Will from time to time be required to work on larger equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Duties involve a combination of the following: Utilizing knowledge and experience of HVAC, refrigeration theory, pipe fitting and standard industry practices to maintain all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment located at Ft. Leonard Wood Military Installation. Employees are required to drive company vehicles on a Federal Installation. Maintains, Repairs and Services the following: Condensing type boilers supplied high temperature water systems, natural & LP gas heating and water heating equipment, air conditioning/refrigeration equipment to include scroll, reciprocating and crew type compressors, supplied chilled water systems, ice machines, walk-in cooler and freezers. All related electrical equipment, motors, fans, wiring, switches and controls. Other related equipment to include pumps, heat exchangers, solar equipment and industrial air compressors. Ability to read and understand blueprints, manuals and engineering specifications. QUALIFICATIONS At least four years’ experience and/or related trade school required. EPA Universal certification. Missouri LP gas certification within 6 months of hire. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school degree required. Related trade school preferred. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members. Title: SKILLBRIDGE ONLY AFCAP V Middle East BOS: Alternate Site Manager/HVAC Tech Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR! MUST BE ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND ELIGIBLE FOR THE SKILLBRIDGE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM. Program Summary KBR’S AFCAP V group provides ongoing support and operations services to the United States Air Force. Job Summary The AFCAP V Middle East BOS Alternate Site Manager/HVAC Technician is designated by the Contractor to serve in an extended absence of the Site Manager. The ASM has full authority to act for the Contractor relating to daily contract operation in the absence of the SM. . Roles and Responsibilities The ASM is responsible for meeting Contractor’s work requirements, including scheduling of personnel, work supervision, and quality control. The ASM shall work closely with the government and local representatives including scheduling required meetings or conferences and be available within four (4) hours to meet on the installation with Government personnel (designated by the ACO) to discuss focus areas. Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and performs emergency/preventive maintenance. Project general requirements include but are not limited to; maintenance and repair of freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, appliances, fitness equipment, HVAC equipment, testing and balancing, general facility maintenance. Determines replacement parts as needed. Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems. Install, repair, replace, modify, test, and maintain, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, to maintain proper operational capability IAW UFC 3-601-02, NFPA, and the original equipment manufacturer's instructions. Operate, repair, maintain, test, inspect, and document portable/mobile fire extinguishers IAW NFPA 10. Works from prints and schematics as required. Maintain accurate records and reports as required. Performs other duties as assigned. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions that require wear of hard hats, gloves, steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protection equipment (PPE); may be required to push, pull, and lift heavy equipment. Use of Land Mobile Radios, cell phones, laptops, and other devices to maintain contact and accountability of work activities. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work will be indoors and outdoors. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals may occur. Overtime and shift work may be required depending on contractual needs as well as occasional to frequent travel. Employees must comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and published Company work rules as well as written instructions. Task specific work environment training may be provided. Must be prepared to function in a wartime or contingency environment to support U.S. interests. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Physical requirements include lifting up to 35lb, team lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, extended sitting, or standing, stooping, stretching, and bending. Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots as well as Individual Protective Equipment (IPE). Day-to-day physical requirements may involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs. frequently, etc. Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking upstairs. Basic Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years’ work experience related to site management and practical HVAC field operations. Shall have a current North America Technician Excellence (NATE) certification, EPA 608 certification and preventative maintenance certification. Maintenance journeyman or master technician, HAZMAT certified in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification standards described in 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 82. Must be a U.S. Citizen with a current U. S. Driver's License. Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 13 months of remaining validity AND 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining. Must have and maintain a valid U. S. SECRET Security Clearance Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently. Skills: Able and willing to work periods of long hours to meet mission requirements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in contingency environments as well as knowledge & experience working with government contracts.
