IDOC - Electrical Foreman

Summary: The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is currently accepting new applications for an Electrical Foreman to plan, supervise, and perform electrical and electronics work. This announcement will be used for the South Boise Complex to include Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Boise Women's Correctional Center (SBWCC), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) including the Pre-Release Center, Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), and Mountain View Transformation Center (MVTC). This is a working electrical foreman position and subject to after hours and weekend call-backs. Responsibilities: • Plans, supervises, and performs cost estimates, installation, and inspection of electrical systems and service work in new and remodeled facilities. • Installs, repairs, and maintains conduit, switches, compressor units, and other electrical accessories on heating, cooling, and refrigeration units. • Repairs electrical motors and ensures proper operation of high-voltage generators and transformers used to backup primary systems. • Installs and repairs complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, and communications equipment. • Repairs speakers, amplifiers, bull horns, fire control monitors, and similar equipment. • Provides input for budgets, cost projections, and program objectives. • Writes electrical and contract specifications Issues and evaluates bids from private contractors. • Recommends and coordinates bid selections and writes purchase requests Interprets and draws blueprints. • Orders and maintains a supply of electrical parts. • Assigns work to inmate workers and apprentices and evaluates their performance. • Trains apprentices to obtain their journeyman electrician's license. • Prepares work and training reports. • Maintains custody of assigned inmates. • Conducts searches for weapons, tools, and contraband. • May testify at hearings concerning inmate status and performance. • Evaluates facility electrical procedures to protect and maintain state property. Minimum Qualifications: • Licensed as a journeyman electrician in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 10, Idaho Code. • Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices; OR completion of a college course covering supervisory practices; OR leadwork experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a minimum of 3 months). • Good knowledge of electrical safety practices. Typically gained from experience where the use of electrical safety practices was required. Such as working for a residential contractor pulling wires and running conduit, etc. OR vo-tech course covering electrical safety practices. • Experience planning, installing, and maintaining commercial electrical work relating to building construction and equipment repair; operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical motors up to 500 horsepower; interpreting commercial electrical construction blueprints. Typically gained from at least 2 years work experience at a commercial journey level in a commercial or industrial setting. • Using electrical metering and motor testing equipment at least 2 years work experience in commercial journey level. • Installing and maintaining commercial electrical control panels and relays with integrated circuitry, and alarm and detection devices for high and low voltage equipment; developing material and equipment cost estimates for electrical projects; and evaluating electrical specifications and performance criteria. Typically gained from at least 2 years work experience at a commercial journey level in a commercial or industrial setting. • Willing to work non-traditional hours at a correctional facility while maintaining custody of assigned inmate workers. Traffic Signal Electrician - ITD

The Idaho Transportation Department’s (ITD) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Traffic Signal Electrician to join our team in District 6 - Rigby, Idaho. We are looking for a transportation professional who thrives in an innovative and collaborative work environment. The purpose of this position is to install, program, maintain, trouble shoot, repair, and inspect electrical and electronic systems in traffic signals, highway and sign lighting and buildings, structures, and specialized equipment. The successful incumbent will be required to respond to emergencies at any hour, work in all types of weather conditions, around high-speed and high-volume traffic, with high voltage, and at heights up to 50 feet. This position requires • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 60 days of hire. • Pre-employment drug testing and Random Drug & Alcohol tests. • Obtaining credentials as a certified Flagger in the state of Idaho within 1 year of hire. • Must be available to respond to work-related calls within 30 minutes during on-call periods or as needed. This ensures timely support and responsiveness to operational needs. Example of Duties • Install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems including wiring, conduits, and traffic signal hardware. • Install, maintain, and repair vehicle and pedestrian detection systems and intersection cabinets and their associated components and peripheries. • Program engineering traffic timing data into intersection controllers and other associated devices. • Respond to emergency callouts to locate causes of malfunctions and make repairs as needed, 24 hours a day 7 days a week including holidays to any traffic signal or traffic control device in the district including but not limited to electrical issues at rest areas, ports of entry, buildings and roadway lighting fixtures. • Install electrical and electronic systems in various devices, including traffic signals, traffic control devices, closed circuit TV, highway and overhead sign lighting, building service panels, building lighting, lab trailers, motors and controls, heating/cooling systems, brine/ magnesium chloride pumps, generators, and various communication and other equipment. • Review construction plans and inspect new installations to assure compliance with all electrical requirements and codes. • Write specifications to organize contract work, including purchase orders. • Organize projects, including determination of installation and repair methods, materials, manpower, equipment, and costs. • Operate specialized electrical testing and power equipment. • Perform preventive maintenance on service and bucket trucks to include testing, oil changes, cleaning, and lubricating. • Pull electrical permits and schedule electrical inspections through DBS. • Make safety presentations, provide work direction, technical instruction, and demonstrate electrical procedures to state maintenance staff, city and county traffic personnel, contractors, and others. • Set up safe work zone traffic control during maintenance operations. • Locate State owned underground utilities. Working Conditions • Work in all weather conditions. • Work on energized equipment, around loud noise, and construction equipment. • Stand and walk on level and uneven surfaces. Kneel, squat and stoop in the performance of installation and inspection duties. • Duties also require the incumbent to climb in and out of a boom bucket and balance while working at a height of a maximum of 50 feet. • Incumbent will regularly be required to lift equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. • Exposed daily to electrical hazards and perform installation and repair work near moving traffic in all weather conditions. Minimum Qualifications Licensure: • Licensed as Journeyman Electrician in accordance with Idaho Code, title 54, Chapter 10. Experience: • Installing, repairing, and maintaining industrial electrical systems and equipment. • Troubleshooting and repairing electronically controlled circuits and multiphase high voltage/current circuits and control equipment. • Using specialized electrical tools, meters and testing equipment and electronic testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Physical requirement: • Lift items overhead weighing up to 50 pounds. • Valid driver's license. Electrician (Maintenance)

This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) in Substation Maintenance Grand Coulee (TFWJ), Wenatchee District (TFW), Transmission Field Services (TF), Transmission Services (T). A successful candidate in the Electrician (Maintenance) position will maintain and repair electrical equipment in Substations. Overtime work to meet the needs of system reliability will be required. Documents work performed, noting existing conditions and any special circumstances. Reports all accidents, including near-misses, to the Foreman. May write reports or memorandums. Occasionally the Electrician directs other Electricians, Electrician Helpers, Oil Filter Operators, and Apprentices. The Electrician is also responsible for providing guidance in the form of training apprentice Electricians and other journeyman Electricians in the skills of the trade. Electricians are accountable for government-owned assigned personal property. They are also responsible for the proper care of tools, vehicles, and other work equipment that they use. Electricians must comply with all relevant aspects of management directed activities such as programs for the handling and disposal of hazardous waste material. Physical Requirements:Essential Functions (those duties encompassed in a job which are indispensable and comprise the gist or substance of the job): • Installs and adjusts (construction) major electrical equipment such as power transformer and gas, oil, or air-insulated power circuit breakers; instrument and station service transformers, disconnect and circuit switches, protective devices, static capacitors, batteries and charges. • Maintains and repairs (maintenance) major electrical equipment in substations. When equipment fails, performs emergency repairs. • Performs diagnostic testing to inspect parts and equipment. • Performs work in shops on equipment components including bushings, motors, small power tools, etc. Assembles, installs, and modifies control and relay panels for substations. • Assembles and erects steel racks and towers to support equipment. • Installs and changes antennas, reflectors, transmitting or receiving devices, emergency power supplies, and other equipment located in microwave or radio stations. • Occasionally takes clearances and performs switching to isolate a piece of equipment for repair. • Conduit and trenches for equipment are installed under the service yard. Cables are pulled through the conduit. • Completes associated documentation required of the above listed tasks. • Drives 20-25% of the time in all-weather conditions. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
