Concrete/Carpenter Positions

We specialize in all forms of water and wastewater general contracting including Job Order Contracting, Construction Manager at Risk, Design-Bid-Build, and Design-Build throughout Arizona, Texas, Utah, and New Mexico. MGC Contractors, Inc is looking for Concrete Laborers, Form setters, and Finishers to join our Texas Division in the Austin area. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES FOR CONCRETE LABORER • Spreads Concrete into forms using rake or shovel. • Mixes cement using hoe or concrete mixing machine. • Breaks up and repairs concrete surfaces using pneumatic tools. • Cleans work areas, machines, and equipment to maintain a clean and safe job site. • Fine grades soil on ground to achieve proper thickness of concrete. • Selects tools, equipment, and materials from storage and transports items to job sites to be used. • Any and all other duties assigned. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES FOR FORMSETTER • Erects built-in-place forms or assembles and installs prefabricated forms on construction site according to blueprint specifications using hand tools, plum rule, and level. • Inserts spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of form to maintain specified dimensions. • Anchors and braces forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, and anchor rods. • Saws lumber to blueprint dimensions using handsaw or power saw and nails lumber together to make form panels. • Any and all other duties assigned. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES FOR CONCRETE FINISHER • Signals concrete delivery to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete. • Moves discharge chute off truck to direct concrete into forms. • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms using rake or shovel. • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency using hand-held screed and floats to bring water to surface and product soft tapping. • Smoothes and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straightedge and float or power screed. • Finishes concrete surfaces using power trowel or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish. • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound. • Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge. • May sprinkle colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish. • May produce rough concrete surface using broom. • May direct sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms. • May break up and repair old concrete surfaces using pneumatic tools. • Any and all other duties assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT • This position operates at professional construction sites, requiring the ability to communicate verbally with others on site, in person and over the telephone. The ability to read printed materials, signs and directions. The stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner. The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures. While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK • This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime, weekend work may be required as job duties demand. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • High School Diploma or GED required. • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience preferred. Carpenter

Application review will take into account without limitation the following criteria: union membership and qualifications, and experience specific to the job description/duties as well as prior experience with Hoffman Structures. WORK DESCRIPTION: Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood and plywood using carpenter's hand tools and power tools while conforming to local building codes. Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated. Select specified type of lumber or other materials. Prepare layout using tape measure, framing square, builders levels & lasers. Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil or chalk. Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels and other hand tools. Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, screws, lags and nuts and bolts. Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level. Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Belong to local union hall. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is mainly outside thus exposed to various weather conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL: Able to pass Pre-Employment & Regular Drug Tests. Must be able to wear fall protection equipment and physically able to climb ladders and cranes. Standing/Walking - Constantly (66% to 100% a day). Bend (neck and back) - Frequently (33% to 66% a day). Use of hands for repetitive grasping - Constantly (66% to 100% a day). Use of hands for pushing & pulling - Frequently (33% to 66% a day). Use of hands for fine manipulation - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Squatting & Kneeling - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Climb (stairs & ladders) - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Reaching Overhead - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Lift Overhead - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Knee Stand - Occasionally (less than 33% a day). Lift/Carry - at least 40 pounds - Frequently (33% to 66% a day). Pushing & Pulling - Frequently (33% to 66% a day). MENTAL: Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required. Must be able to work independently and as a team. Must be able to make decisions, and follow through on all assignments. Carpenter

Carpenter Gulf Copper is currently seeking Carpenters for our Galveston location. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. • Erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. • Work from blueprints or instructions from supervisors, carpenters first do the layout—measuring, marking, and arranging materials—in accordance with local building codes. • Cut and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall using hand and power tools, such as chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders. • Join the materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives. • Do a final check of the accuracy of their work with levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment, and make any necessary adjustments. • Construct wooden forms for pouring concrete, or erecting scaffolding Required Education & Experience: • A high school graduate or holder of a GED preferred. • Trade and technical school training and/or employer-provided training preferred. • Industrial and/or marine carpentry experience: • 1st Class: 3-5 years • 2nd Class: 1-3 years Working Conditions: • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and / or rainy weather, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc. • Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling often are necessary. • Must wear hearing, eye, and head protection. • Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. • Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials. • Aboard ships, both on and offshore.
