Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy construction and street maintenance equipment. This role requires high school diploma or equivalent, ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations, sufficient experience in heavy equipment operation, and possession of a Class B CDL license. This position involves operating one or more pieces of heavy equipment such as motor grader, bulldozer, trencher, dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, excavator, roller, tractor, mower, and other light weight and heavy duty equipment necessary for the accomplishment of various department projects. The ideal candidate should have experience in performing routine equipment checks, minor repairs, and maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas, and other fluids. Loading dump trucks and hauling rock, dirt, mulch, asphalt, and other materials to or from work sites is also a key responsibility of this role. Other tasks include filling and repairing roads, road shoulders; performing ditch and drainage construction, repair and cleaning; manual labor tasks such as flagging traffic, mowing/weedeating rights-of-way, cleaning and maintaining streets and ditches, and pouring, spreading, and leveling asphalt, concrete, and gravel. Additionally, this role may involve assisting with the installation of street signs and applying pesticide and herbicide.
