Finish Carpenter

Overview The ideal candidate would be reliable, responsible, take ownership of their work, and understands the basic aspects of residential carpentry work and capable of completing smaller projects independently and working with a team on larger projects. Requirements: • In a physically demanding occupation, trim carpenters bend, kneel, lift (40-60lbs), carry, climb, and stand for long periods of time. • Capable of working in all types of weather conditions. • Demonstrates attention to detail, and problem-solving, and able to take initiative. • Proficiency with hand, power, pneumatic, and precision tools, along with levels and measuring tape. • Executes precision measuring and cutting to create a seamless finished appearance. • Must have hand tools, tool belt, hammer, square, chalk line, cordless drills, etc. • Must be reliable and punctual. • Reliable car/ truck and clean driving record. Responsibilities : • Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials. • Ensures work progresses accurately.. • Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels. • Erects scaffolding and ladders. • Works from specifications on blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. • Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. • Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment. • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools. • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue. • Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools. • Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures. • Moves necessary materials around job site as assigned. • Cleans up worksite debris. • Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers • Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations Qualifications • High school diploma is an asset. • 4+ years of experience in commercial or residential carpentry. • Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications. • Strong working knowledge of job site safety. Job Description: • Responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and/or replacing all systems needed to maintain the safety and security of College Buildings. • Responsible for selecting materials and techniques used to maintain and repair doors, door hardware, windows, floors, ceilings, partitions, office equipment/furniture, and classrooms. • Plans, lays out, assembles, and installs materials, equipment, and fixtures as required by scope of work. • Responds to departmental requests, which may include, but are not limited to, securing office equipment, installing shelves, rearranging furniture. Performs related duties as assigned. • Coordinating and setting up for special events on campus. Requirements: • Safely use electric tools (saws, drills, sanders, etc.) as well as hand tools. • Rekey doors, duplicate keys, repair locks. • Able to effectively read and follow blueprints. • Build cabinets, shelves, walls, closets, desks, various items. • Oversee student workers; arrange schedules; delegate tasks.
