CARPENTER MASTER

The overall function of this position is to build, repair and maintain the district’s facilities including rest areas, buildings, operator houses and other timber and metal structures and to work as lead worker in the absence of the foreman. This position is located in District 03/Unit 701 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to a Maintenance Foreman. One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Three years of experience or training in the carpentry trade. Job Duties: • 70% Leads a crew of carpenters and/or trades apprentices in the construction and maintenance of all district facilities. Includes rough and trim carpentry, roofing, flooring, framing, foundations and incidental general carpentry skills. • 20% Builds and installs custom desks and furniture for facilities. Remodeling of office spaces including moving walls, windows, flooring and incidental work. • 5% Acts as lead worker in the absence of the Foreman. Trains subordinate workers in the carpentry trade. • 5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency disaster support activities. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
