Conlon Construction Co. is seeking Finish Carpenters to join our growing team! This role will be based in the Denver, CO area, supporting the remodels of big box store construction projects. After completion of the Denver-based projects, travel will be required to support similar work across the country. Job Summary: The Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made from wood, steel, and other materials. This role requires a strong understanding of carpentry techniques, an ability to read blueprints, and a strong understanding of building codes and safety regulations. The Carpenter will work on a variety of commercial and restoration projects, including offices, retail spaces, and other commercial buildings. The Carpenter often works independently, anticipating the next steps in the construction process, while ensuring quality and safety standards are met. The duties in this job description are not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned. Duties/Responsibilities: Demolition • Effectively demo and safely remove building materials to create a new work area. • Selective demo as needed to avoid non-needed build backs. • Maintain a clean work area to eliminate safety hazards. • Eliminate fall hazards as created such as floor hole capping and installation of guardrails. Construction • Maintain general conditions on the jobsite, which may include perimeter fence maintenance, digging trenches, erecting scaffolding, jobsite cleanup, and removal of scrap and other waste material, washout area, and snow and ice removal. • Construct walls, partitions, structural framing, and roof structure from wood and steel materials. • Assist with concrete, forming/rebar, placing, finishing, wall rubbing, repairing for both flat and vertical work. • Assemble and disassemble scaffolding, ladders, bracing and shoring systems. • Assemble and install hardware. • Caulk, grind, waterproof, grout gaps, and insulate floors and walls. • Paint walls, buildings and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. • Operate hand and power tools of all types: pneumatic hammers, grinders, powder actuated, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. • Complete finish work, which includes specialties, handrails, base, crown, doors and hardware, and window installation. • Conduct quality verification and assist other employees with the construction process. • Work with Superintendent or Foreman to interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand the specific requirements of each project. Safety & Compliance • Keep work area clean and in safe condition while complying with all Conlon, Client, state and federal safety regulations. • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies on the job site. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. • Assists with the completion of regular inspections which may include tools, ladders, scaffolding, the daily JHA (Job Hazard Analysis), and others as assigned. • Actively participate to any emergency action. Supervision of Others • Carpenters may have a Laborer working alongside them, this may include mentoring, assigning tasks, and overseeing the quality of work and productivity as needed. Competencies: • Attention to Detail - Jobsite: Pays close attention to jobsite cleanliness, measurement accuracy, material handling, and overall work quality. Ensures tasks are completed according to project specifications. • Construction Knowledge - Applied: Exhibits practical understanding of construction methods, including framing, demolition, painting, forming, concrete work, and finish carpentry. Applies appropriate techniques to various materials and structures. • Crane Operation & Safety Awareness: Demonstrates skilled and precise operation of crane in accordance with OSHA and manufacturer guidelines. Maintains awareness of load capacities, environmental factors, and job site conditions to ensure safe lifting and rigging practices. • Initiative & Dependability: Shows up on time, ready to work, and takes ownership of assigned tasks. Demonstrates a strong work ethic and the ability to follow through with minimal supervision. • Instructional and Safety Communication: Able to read and understand work orders, safety rules, and instructional documents. Communicates issues or needs clearly and documents work performed when required. • Productivity: Maintains steady productivity throughout the workday while balancing speed with quality and safety. • Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols including use of PPE, fall protection, ladder safety, and electrical precautions. Proactively mitigates safety risks in the work environment. • Task Execution Planning - Carpentry: Anticipates next steps in the construction process and prepares materials, tools, or support in advance. Demonstrates awareness of project sequencing to prevent delays and support overall efficiency. • Teamwork - Jobsite: Works effectively with all the on jobsite(s) to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks. • Technology Use: Utilizes construction-related technology such as mobile apps for timekeeping, safety, or project updates, and basic communication platforms. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and tools as needed. • Tool Usage: Understands and safely operates basic hand and power tools. Demonstrates skill in assembling/disassembling structures and using equipment for a variety of construction tasks. Qualifications/Experience: • High School Diploma or equivalent; and 5 plus years’ related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. • Experience in commercial construction preferred. • A Valid Driver License is preferred. Physical Requirements: Mobility: Carpenters are required to stand, walk, bend, kneel and climb for extended periods of time and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to repetitively lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., push pull up to 75 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Working Conditions: This position requires employees to work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather, including wet surfaces and high variation in temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, power tools, and heights. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is highly variable.
