Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our team as an Instructor at our vocational academy. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a big plus, but not required for employment. Role purpose Job Purpose: The Multi-Carpenter will be responsible for carrying out carpentry and general building maintenance tasks in vacant properties within the social housing portfolio. The goal is to ensure all properties are fully prepared for new tenants by addressing carpentry issues and performing related tasks, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Responsibilities • Carry out a variety of carpentry tasks in void properties, including the repair, replacement, and installation of doors, windows, frames, skirting boards, flooring, and other wooden fixtures and fittings. • Install and maintain kitchen units, cabinetry, and other wooden structures within the property. • Repair or replace damaged or worn-out wooden structures and fixtures. • Work with other trades and contractors to ensure all carpentry work is completed as part of the overall property refurbishment or maintenance plan. • Carry out minor plastering, tiling, or painting tasks when required, to ensure a high standard of finish. • Ensure all works comply with health and safety regulations and building codes. • Maintain accurate records of work carried out, including reporting any further issues or required repairs to the Maintenance Supervisor. • Work to agreed deadlines and within budget, minimizing costs without compromising the quality of work. • Liaise with tenants, housing staff, and contractors as needed, ensuring all work is carried out professionally and with minimal disruption. • Adhere to health and safety practices at all times, using the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a safe working environment. • Ensure that all tools and equipment are well-maintained and used correctly. Skills & Qualifications • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification. • Proven experience as a carpenter in a residential or social housing environment. • Ability to undertake a wide range of carpentry and joinery tasks. • Experience working in void properties, with a good understanding of the specific challenges and requirements for preparing these properties for new tenants. • Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and health and safety standards. • Good communication skills, with the ability to work with a range of colleagues, tenants, and external contractors. • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively. • Full UK driving license (if required for the role). • Basic knowledge of other building trades such as plumbing or electrical work is advantageous. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, perform journeyman quality work in the maintenance, repair, construction, alteration, forming, framing and finishing of Campus buildings and facilities; remodeling and construction of buildings and equipment; performs other related duties as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Performs a variety of rough and finish carpentry work. • Performs skilled mill and cabinet work involving construction, finishing, and repairing of buildings doors, and other building related items. • Refinishes furniture. • Builds forms, operates planers, shapers, jointers, lathes, handsaws, and other woodworking machinery. • Maintains tools and machinery in safe and efficient operating condition. • Prepares drawings and sketches of construction and repair projects. • Estimates costs and orders materials needed. • May assist in cement work, fence repair, and other outside maintenance work. • May be required to work in other trade areas on a temporary basis. • Perform other duties as assigned.
