Tank Builder / Welder (Nationwide)

Phillips Tank & Structure (PTS) is no ordinary tank construction company. We specialize in the complex and fast-paced environment of tank repair on a nationwide scale. No two tanks are alike, so when they need repair, they often pose unique or complicated technical issues. Our experienced engineering staff are well-versed in API 650, API 653, AWWA D100, AWWA D103, API 12D, and other tank specifications. We build and repair welded above-ground storage tanks (ASTs), bolted tanks, and related structures. We also inspect, install, and repair tank systems such as aluminum geodesic dome covers, aluminum internal floating roofs (IFRs), IFR mechanical shoe seals, liquid level gauges, fire protection systems, silo support structures, industrial storage tanks, and heating and insulation systems. Day to Day Duties: • Performing arc and torch cutting and gouging. • Using generators, compressors, tuggers, blowers, grinders, and other power and air tools. • Welding plate with 7018, 7024 and 6010 stick (SMAW), flux core (FCAW), and submerged arc automatic machines (3 o’clock and “goat”/tractor). • Using come-alongs, hydraulic jacks, hoists, air bags, winches, and other lifting equipment. • Using tank shell buggies, tank scaffolding, tank ladders, and other specialty equipment. • Performing vacuum box tests, oil tests, dye penetrant tests, and other non-destructive quality examinations. • Using gas monitors, fresh air kits, respirators, emergency rescue kits, and other safety equipment. • Operating forklifts, man lifts, boom lifts, and other large lifting equipment. • Knowledge of crane operations (including rigging and signaling) • Reading detailed erection and fabrication drawings. • Planning the sequence and methods of fitting up, welding, repairing, and constructing tanks. • Completing job safety analysis, safety audits, site-specific training, and other safety training. • Follow directions and work professionally with other crew members. \ • Other duties as assigned. Welder/Repairperson - Plant Repair

Job Summary This is a full-time, 12 hour, rotating shift, role. The Welder/Repairperson is responsible for using proper tools and equipment to perform tack and finish welds on fabricated steel components or metal parts as specified by blueprints and by using proper welding fixtures and methods - all this while exhibiting and championing safe work and environmental compliance practices for the incumbent as well as co-workers. Responsibilities • Exhibits and maintains safe work and environmental compliance practices • Perform all types of fabrication, construction, erection, installation, maintenance, repair, modification and rework of machinery, equipment (non-automotive), and structures per blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions • Diagnose failures, malfunctions, and other breakdowns of machinery, equipment, systems, and structures; modify, rebuild or repair by fabricating, fitting, adjusting, installing, constructing, disassembling, reassembling, and welding • Fabricate frames, structures, and component parts from sheet metal, flat or rolled stock, etc.; perform any type of welding, brazing, and cutting • Perform layout involving straight line, horizontal, parallel and angular surfaces and constant radius circular flat surfaces from blueprints, welding manuals, and sketches per established shop practice and procedure and from verbal instructions • Check own work for proper dimensions, contour alignment, fit, proper functioning, quality, safety and conformance to specifications • Set up and use rigging and cribbing as required • Pick up parts from storeroom as required; upon completion of jobs, returns tools, equipment, surplus parts, and materials to designated areas; keep working areas clean, orderly and safe; replaces and/or constructs serviceable guards • Performs duties of Dust Collector and Luber • Performs clean up duties in all areas of the facility • Conduct electrical and electronic maintenance and repair as needed • Perform mobile equipment maintenance as required Education High school diploma/GED Requirements/Qualifications • Familiarity with computers • Ability to read blueprints • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required • Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours) • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground); physical ability to climb on equipment • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 70 lbs. • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require the use of hearing protection • Exposure to cement, clay, limestone and various chemicals • Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check.
