Position Type: High School Certified Teaching PositionsDate Posted: 7/28/2025Location: Cocke County High SchoolClosing Date: Until FilledHigh School CTE Industrial Maintenace Teacher Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Welding Teacher will instruct students in the principles and practices of industrial systems maintenance. The teacher will help students develop practical skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as safety procedures and troubleshooting techniques. This position plays a critical role in preparing students for entry-level positions and postsecondary training in industrial maintenance and related fields. Essential Functions Develops and administers a CTE Welding curriculum aligned with district goals, state standards, and industry expectations. Designs and delivers engaging, hands-on lessons that teach students how to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot industrial equipment and systems. Teaches core concepts such as electrical systems, motors and controls, mechanical drive systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and preventive maintenance. Emphasizes workplace safety, OSHA compliance, and proper use of tools, machinery, and diagnostic equipment. Cultivates students' critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities in real-world scenarios. Promotes teamwork, communication, and professionalism in lab and shop settings. Adapts instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with special education requirements. Uses assessments to monitor student learning and skill development, adjusting instruction as needed for academic and technical growth. Maintains and secures tools, equipment, and lab facilities in accordance with safety and operational guidelines. Stays current with emerging trends in industrial technology and workforce demands by attending professional development events and industry training. Keeps accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grading in accordance with district and state requirements. Engages families and caregivers in student learning and provides regular updates on student progress and career pathway opportunities. Supports a positive learning environment by enforcing school rules and expectations, and modeling respectful, professional behavior. Collaborates with colleagues and advisory committees to align curriculum with local industry needs and student career goals. Coordinates with school counselors and local industry partners to provide career exploration, certifications, internships, and dual credit opportunities when available. Additional Duties Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration. Equipment Operates and maintains instructional tools and equipment used in industrial maintenance labs, such as multimeters, motors, PLC trainers, hydraulic and pneumatic trainers, welding machines, and safety devices. Uses standard office technology such as computers, printers, and software for lesson planning, grading, and communication. Travel Requirements May require travel between school buildings or to attend professional development workshops, industry visits, or career fairs. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Demonstrated expertise in industrial maintenance practices and technologies. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, maintenance protocols, and technical documentation. Familiarity with current teaching strategies and the ability to differentiate instruction. Ability to integrate career readiness skills into instruction, including soft skills and employability traits. Effective communication skills for engaging with students, parents, industry partners, and colleagues. Strong organizational and classroom management skills. Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning. Ability to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Work is performed in both classroom and industrial lab/shop settings, which may include exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical systems, and varying temperatures. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and demonstrate physical dexterity to operate tools and machinery. Requires standing for extended periods and wearing appropriate safety gear when needed. Qualifications Profile Certification/License: Tennesse State Certification as a CTE Welding Teacher or willing to obtain endorsement Relevant industry certifications. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the ability to provide own transportation. Relevant real world experience. Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred. Relevant industry experience in the construction field required.
