Field Mechanic/Welder

Objective and Responsibilities: • Perform repairs to equipment, trucks, and vehicles. • All kinds of welding, brazing, and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment. • Follow Material Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials, as required. • Work under general supervision from verbal and written instructions and intermittent directions. Duties, Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions: • Perform repairs to equipment, trucks, and vehicles. • Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, and conveyors used in construction. • Repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts. • Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects. • Road test vehicles after they have been repaired. • Listen for other problems with the vehicle during the road test. • Check the vehicle for cleanliness (no grease or dirt left from repairs). • Follow all standard safety rules and regulations. • Must be trained and qualified to do required repair work on vehicles. • Check for additional repairs needed before turning the completed work over to the Foreman. • Let the Foreman know of additional repairs needed. • Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job. Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements. • Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals. Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment. • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tacks weld parts. • Builds up worn or defective surfaces. • Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape. • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly. • Work as a team alongside the other departments. Nonessential Duties: • Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. • May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above. • The duties of this classification may overlap duties performed by employees in other classifications. Qualifications: • Minimum of 6 months basic knowledge in maintenance preferred. • Must be familiar with the OSHA requirements in proper lifting techniques. • Ability to lift 70 lbs. • Must have own tools. • Ability to use hand tools and trades type tools. • Must have a valid state driver’s license (preferably CDL) with clean driving record and the ability to be insured to operate company vehicles. • Ability to communicate with customers and fellow employees. • Must successfully pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test. • Must be able to pass background check to be able to access DOD installations, facilities and buildings.
