Welding Technician III, 2nd Shift (Onsite)

Operate various welding, soldering and brazing equipment to manufacture heat exchangers, water separators and environmental control system components while practicing and complying with environmental health and safety directions and procedures. What You Will Do • Work from various instructions such as specifications, sketches, technical orders, blueprints and other written and verbal instructions within established methods and procedures. • Perform fusion welding, salt braze torch braze, plasma cutting, electric-arc, heli-arc, and acetylene welding processes. • Ensure that all documentation including specifications, blueprints and applicable tools, gages and fixtures are quality compliant and traceable. • Perform preventative maintenance. • Participate in audits of processes, procedures and work areas. • Responsible for own work. • Move parts and materials to designate locations in accordance with normal material flow procedures. • Keep equipment and surroundings neat, clean and organized. • Perform related duties as required within the scope and skill level of this job function. • 2nd Shift 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm Monday - Friday • Training may take place on 1st shift for 3 months What You Will Learn • Operating within Lean Manufacturing method. • Welding in accordance tight specifications and tolerance in the aerospace. • Cross-functional collaboration through various types of manufacturing and processes. Education Level • High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School Work Experience • 2-3 years of welding experience or technical schooling (highly desired) Duties/Responsibilities • Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal. • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter. • Cleans or degreases weld joints or workpieces. • Connects cables from the welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by the Welding Engineer or Welding Technician. • Detect and report potential issues or questionable conditions to the department supervisor. • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. • Maintains the works area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. • Must be able to perform and pass the 2G unlimited weld test. • Must be familiar with the basic machine functions to perform the tasks stated above. • Must be willing to receive and accept frequent supervision and assistance about weld setups/changeovers. • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through a portable welding gun. • Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required. • Performs typical welding operations to support production needs. • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture. • Preheat the workpiece with a hand torch or heating furnace. • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. • Starts the power supply to produce an electric current. • Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of the workpiece. • Welds in flat and horizontal. • May perform other duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities • Basic shop math, reading, writing, and interpreting English, basic mechanical skills, effectively utilizing lifting devices, ability to interpret shop paperwork and work instructions, and ability to verify logs and procedures for accuracy. • MIG and TIG skills (highly preferred) • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, good communication skills (desired) Working Conditions • Frequently exposed fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. • Occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions within a manufacturing environment. • The company provides engineering controls, PPE, and regular training to mitigate the employee’s exposure to these elements.
