Flex Crew Welder

About the position FutureFuel Chemical Company is seeking a skilled Welder to join their Flex Crew at the Batesville, Arkansas site. This role involves performing a variety of welding tasks under the supervision of the Supervisor of Construction & Project Engineering, ensuring quality welds on pipes and structural steel while adhering to safety protocols and procedures. Responsibilities • Pass one or more welding performance tests: GTAW Test in 6G position, SMAW Test in 6G position, and a GMAW plate test. , • Produce quality welds on pipe and/or structural steel. , • Assist with the installation of pipe and components. , • Assist with clean-up tasks. , • Communicate effectively to perform essential job functions. , • Perform other job duties as assigned by supervision. , • Work inside and outside in varying weather and temperature conditions. , • Complete required safety training as directed. , • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. , • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits. , • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using tools like straightedges and calipers. , • Examine work pieces for defects and measure them to ensure conformance with specifications. , • Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade. , • Weld using various materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and cast iron. , • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts for welding. , • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to specifications. , • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded. , • Connect and adjust gas flow and pressure for desired flames. Requirements • Basic math skills and ability to read and write specifications. , • Knowledge of proper hazardous material handling and disposal. , • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues. , • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks. , • Self-directed with strong initiative and commitment to follow-through. , • Understanding of FFCC Safety Processes including Confined Space Entry and Safe Work. , • Familiarity with OSHA regulations pertaining to welding. , • Ability to read and understand welding procedures and material requirements. JOB SUMMARY: Set-up and perform a variety of welding, (GMAW, GTAW, brazing etc.) finishing operations and processes on piece parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies. Move stock and completed parts to and from workstations, stock racks and holding areas. May be required to rack and un-rack parts. Follow instructions and procedures to weld various parts and components in prescribed sequences and locations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Other duties may be assigned: Check during assembly for proper weld location and size, proper fit, and operation of sliding or rotating parts. Make repairs when necessary. Check for weld spatter, burn-thru, and other visible weld defects and remove or repair when necessary. May require use of oxyacetylene or plasma arc cutting torches or automatic programmable welder. Check completed work per job instructions and print specifications. Properly set and adjust all welding parameters to maintain quality welds. Also load and assist in welding wire (spool) changes. Perform all job set-ups, rework on painted parts and finished products and must be willing to perform all other operations in the department. Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance of welding equipment and fixtures. May be required to record measurements. Clean and change torch tips and nozzles, and clean conducts or lines with solvent as required. Clean or change helmet lenses as necessary. Report labor. Move completed parts to designated areas. Move stock to and from workstations, stock racks and holding areas. May be required to rack and un-rack parts. Responsible for schedule adherence, safety, housekeeping, rejects, and productivity applicable per Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's). Responsible for both quality and quantity of work: Participate in team activities and problem solving sessions as required. Communicate problems and/or solutions to appropriate team member. Must follow processes and procedures as written. As needed, document and/or chart production data to aid in problem identification, quality feedback and production scheduling. Troubleshoot problems and repair when necessary. Train, instruct and assist other operators in their duties as required.to ensure quality product and smooth flow. Evaluate defective material and tooling, faulty operations, questionable conditions and potential work stoppages. Advise and recommend alternatives to appropriate person. (May require the use of computer and telecommunication device.) Ensure that work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations. Work with Quality Control on reducing the NCMRs. • Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate, weld, paint, plate parts or products and to achieve maximum efficiency and utilization. • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports. • Ability to design and set up weld robot cells for maximum efficiency. • Update/create documentation for job instructions, work instructions, and standard operating procedures. • Ensure safety procedures are followed, work areas are clean and maintained, and the department is following regulatory compliance requirements. • Evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective action plan. • Recommend design modifications to eliminate inefficiencies within the weld process. • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness. • Supervise the work of technicians and other associates as needed. • Provide shop floor support and develop welding processes for new products. • Guide technical staff engaged in developing materials for specific uses in projected products or devices.
