Facilities Management's Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Plumber who provides expertise in the plumbing field. The incumbent provides comprehensive maintenance and repair of all plumbing systems in support of zone maintenance in the Health System Physical Plant. The incumbent maintains all systems in operational condition and provides a safe and comfortable environment for all plumbing systems in support of zone maintenance. The Plumber should be able to read blueprints and have basic computer skills. Day Shift: 40-hr Work Week, Built with 4 (four) 10-hour shifts: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:00am – 5:30pm Duties Include: • Replace and install plumbing and mechanical components. • Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems when necessary. • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes. • Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems quickly and professionally. • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate. • Ensure that all safety and personal protective equipment are used. • Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor. • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. The University of Virginia's Building Automation team within Facilities Management (FM) has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman/Master Plumber who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be joining an exciting and growing team of electricians, HVAC techs, and controls techs for our numerous projects in the Building Automation field across the University of Virginia grounds. The BAS team currently works on new construction projects and controls installations and retrofit projects. The candidate should be able to read and process blueprints and be able to follow them for correct installation locations. The incumbent should be a team player who can work independently, as well as on a crew, and is comfortable working in an occupied environment. This individual will work on a variety of projects and will perform a wide variety of skilled installations and replacement of control valves for the Building Automation team. The candidate must be comfortable with the removal of existing control valves and the proper installation of new control valves. The ideal candidate must have an interest in learning about the controls trade, helping with pulling and landing small voltage wires, and with the termination of wires on the new control valves. Ideal Candidate will be responsible for ensuring that proper trade methods, techniques, and materials are followed when working with pipes and fittings. This role would be starting out with a focus on the installation of control valves but also could be a step into learning the controls trade and moving into a role on the BAS team as a controls installer with lots of upward growth.
