PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Plans and lays out work and engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water, air, gas, sewer, steam, and hot water heating and distribution systems; supervises and inspects the installation and repair of plumbing pipes, sinks, traps, valves, faucets, vents, pumps, and similar equipment, fixtures, and apparatus. • Responsible for the installation record keeping so work meets or exceeds the state codes. • Establishes safety and work performance standards for subordinates. • Selecting type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and valves, according to job specifications. • Cutting pipe using a pipe cutter, pipe saw, power tools (band saw), and pipe cutting machine. • Threading pipe using threading machine. • Assembling and installing a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded, wrapped, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools. • Securing pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools. • Knowledge in safe and professional testing of piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks. • Connecting pipe pieces and seal joints, using cement, glue, or mechanical fasteners. • Checking slopes and alignment for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers and transits. • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. • Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools. • Miscellaneous duties or responsibilities as assigned.
