Construction Services Technician

POSITION SUMMARY This position is for a full-time Construction Technician in our Construction Services Group in our Saginaw, St. Johns, East Lansing, Dundee, and Bingham Farms office locations. A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB • Acting as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for the construction of municipal and MDOT infrastructure projects. • Observation of construction work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications, examining workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards, and maintaining detailed records of work performed by contractors. • Communicates directly with clients and owners, hold and attend meetings, review shop drawings, perform quantity take offs, generate preliminary estimates of cost. • Performs office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, reviewing IDR’s for compliance to standards, generating pay estimates and contract modifications. • Familiarity with MDOT specifications, standard plans, and work practice is preferred. • Conducts material testing as related to: HMA sampling, concrete sampling and testing, aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and HMA materials. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma • Construction inspection experience, preferably in the areas of municipal infrastructure, MDOT Road, and Bridge Construction • Valid driver’s license

Temp To Full-Time Qualified craftsmen basic hiring criteria ? Rigging skills-Must be familiar with chokers, crane signals, center of gravity and rigging ratings. ? Layout skills-Able to follow a sketch or drawing and layout out holes or other members. ? Welding skills- Be able to Tack parts and be interested and dedicated to acquiring certifications. ? Team Player- Must work well in a small group and communicate fluidly with coworkers. ? Follow Instructions-Must be able to follow a plan set for the day and be motivated to reach daily and weekly goals set for the crew. ? Work at heights-Able to work being tied off in and out of a man basket. ? Equipment Operating -Have some Experience in operating an all-terrain for truck, condor and scissor lift. ? Safety Minded-Must believe and know that safety is important in all tasks and be willing to wear required PPE to perform tasks. ? Present- must be able to work 40 hours a week and occasional overtime. ? Clean Background-Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check. ? Willing to learn- Must be able to adapt to certain ways of doing tasks and able to learn new tasks from piers and management. Job Requirements Candidates must be “fit to work” • Manual dexterity • Bend over and reach over head • Work on knees for short periods of time • Ability to stand for extended periods of time • Ability to lift 75 lbs. • Good vision Must pass welding test Arc, MIG, TIG, Flux-core Basic math skills required.
