POSITION SUMMARY This position is for a full-time Construction Technician in our Construction Services Group in our Saginaw, St. Johns, East Lansing, Dundee, and Bingham Farms office locations. A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB • Acting as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for the construction of municipal and MDOT infrastructure projects. • Observation of construction work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications, examining workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards, and maintaining detailed records of work performed by contractors. • Communicates directly with clients and owners, hold and attend meetings, review shop drawings, perform quantity take offs, generate preliminary estimates of cost. • Performs office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, reviewing IDR’s for compliance to standards, generating pay estimates and contract modifications. • Familiarity with MDOT specifications, standard plans, and work practice is preferred. • Conducts material testing as related to: HMA sampling, concrete sampling and testing, aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and HMA materials. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred). • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in construction or contracting (concrete, civil, or general contractor preferred). • Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, or QuickBooks with job cost modules). • Strong understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition. • Solid knowledge of GAAP and construction industry standards. • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities for working with both field and office personnel. Preferred Skills: • Experience with union payroll or certified payroll reporting. • Familiarity with AIA billing and lien waiver processes. • Excel skills including pivot tables and financial modeling.
