Construction Laborers

All Star Concrete LLC located at 4989 NW Johnston Dr, Johnston, Iowa 50131, (515) 224-6394 is seeking 24 temporary full-time Construction Laborers to work at 1510 A Ave W, Oskaloosa, IA 52577, from 10/01/25 to 12/31/25 to Perform tasks involving manual labor at concrete construction site. Prepare the site for placing of concrete by loading and unloading materials, digging and leveling the earth, placing strengthening materials in concrete, and lifting, carrying and setting concrete forms. Place concrete. Clean up waste materials. Clean up construction sites.. Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs 75 yds and handle extreme temperatures. No prior education or experience is required. On the job, training will be provided. $21.59/hr. Approx. 40 hours/week, from Monday to Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. Some weekend work. Applicants may be offered higher than the advertised. The wage rate may vary on experience and/or merit.$32.39/hr for overtime. Up to 10 hours of overtime may be available but not guaranteed. All deductions from the worker's paycheck will be made as required by law. The employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages and pay Weekly by check. Any advances will be deducted with the consent of the employee. The employer will provide housing as an option to employees living outside the regular commuting distance. Employees who elect to live in the housing will have an additional $75 deducted per Weekly paycheck for rent and utilities. Optional daily transportation will be provided from and to worksite and the employer will deduct $25/weekly. In the first workweek, the cost of transportation (including meals and to the extent necessary, lodging) to the place of employment will be directly reimbursed to every worker. If the worker completes 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer will reimburse the worker for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for the worker's reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker's voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. In the first workweek, daily subsistence for travel to the place of employment will be reimbursed at a rate of at least $16.28/day to a maximum of $68.00/day with receipts. Also, workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (except passport fees). The employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job. Job Description Construction laborers typically do the following: • Clean and prepare construction sites by removing debris and possibly hazards. • Load or unload building materials to be used in construction. • Build or take apart bracing, barricades, forms, scaffolding, and temporary structures. • Dig trenches, back-fill holes, or compact earth to prepare for construction. • Operate or tend equipment and machines used in construction, such as a cutting torch. • Help other craft workers with their duties. • Follow construction plans and instructions from the people they are working for. • Climbing ladders and working on uneven ground. • Working outdoors in all seasons. • Being able to work together as a team. Qualifications • Experience on heavy highway construction project. • Must be comfortable working at heights. • Understanding of safety risks (OSHA), and the precautions required to eliminate those risks. • Must have god communication skills. • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction materials, tools, equipment, and methods. • Ability to think clearly in critical and high pressure situations. • Minimum of one year construction experience. • High School Diploma/GED is required. Important Qualities Math Skills: Laborers need to perform basic math calculations to do their job. They often help with measuring on job-sites or they may be part of a surveying crew. Mechanical Skills: Laborers frequently are required to operate and maintain equipment, such as jackhammers. Physical Stamina: Laborers must have endurance to perform strenuous tasks throughout the day. Highway laborers, for example, spend hours on their feet-often in hot/cold temperatures-with few breaks.
