Construction Laborer / Concrete Finisher

Examples of Work: • Positions in the class perform storm water drainage, streets and sidewalks construction and maintenance involving physical labor and skills related to sub-grades, concrete, pavement, storm water structures and drainage grades. Senior employees of this class, when fully trained, act with independence, lead and instruct others. • Accompanies machine operator or foreman to site, assists with machine operation, performs moderately skilled labor patching concrete streets, constructing and reconstructing slabs and catch basins. • May manually complete, dig, backfill drainage projects where larger equipment cannot be used. Spreads soil, sand, limestone, prepares area for paving, patching, seals cracks. Puts together forms, assists in installing pipe. Applies, tightens clamps, tests, inspects for leaks, removes shoring, assists in backfilling, slab replacement, site restoration. • Participates in training, by foremen, equipment operators, to perform more responsible tasks. • Performs related work as required. • Working hours assigned at this time are generally 7:00 to 3:30 weekdays, subject to call out after hours, on week ends and holidays during emergencies. Essential Functions: Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing, digging and physical agility and exertion is a necessary to complete the tasks of positions in this class, as are vision and hearing within normal limits and working in confined spaces. Qualifications: • Literacy required. • Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license; and also must meet the general requirements of the City’s auto insurance company. • Must be a qualified registered voter; must submit a copy of your voter verification with completed application. • Must pass the Civil Service Exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing. • Prior experience in construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, storm water drainage are desired.
