Hiring Department Campus Facilities Management (CFM) Job Description The Building Trades Specialist (BTS) Mason position is part of the Campus Facilities Management (CFM) Department and is responsible for performing skilled work on a journey level in the building trades of masonry, concrete flatwork, and road surfaces. Ideal candidates will enjoy working both indoors and outdoors and take pride in maintaining visually appealing spaces for faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors. Key Responsibilities • Construct, maintain and repair structures using masonry materials. Plan layout, mix bonding material, shape and lay stone, brick, tile and other masonry material using appropriate bonding agents. • Repair and finish joints between stones or bricks of masonry structure. Plan layout, remove existing bonding material, mix and apply fresh bonding agent. • Set forms, embed necessary reinforcing materials, pour and finish concrete, asphalt or other surfaces to specified textures. • Break up existing masonry structure using power and hand tools. • Install tile on floors and other areas following design specifications. Prepare surface for tiling by cleaning, filling holes with appropriate material and spreading adhesive base. • Set up and dismantle scaffolding and staging, install drain tiles, waterproofs underground masonry surfaces, apply sealants, cut openings and utility access holes in masonry surface as required. • May perform or assist with preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports, and maintenance of records. • Perform other duties as assigned. Shift 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday Minimum Qualifications • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities are acquired. • Four years actual work experience and training including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in a building trade is required. • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in the trade. • A valid Missouri driver's license is required. • Ability daily to: Grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs.) • Shovel snow, climb ladders, and operate heavy power equipment. • Depending on the nature of work performed, may be required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the "Industrial Standard for Respirator Use" Anticipated Hiring Range Commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
