General Job Description: We are hiring in Washington, NC. We are looking for Paper Mill Operator workers who are looking to grow within an organization at a long-term full-time job. Operates a paper mill to make high quality filter paper that meets strict quality standards. Requirements: • High School Diploma or GED preferred • Reading and writing skills are required to be able to complete written reports and perform lab analyses. • Basic math skill is required to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide to set up the machine and to figure formula changes, inventory used, and filter pack measurements. • Measurement skill to 1/16 inch is required. • Operates a paper mill. • Sets up the machines and ovens and threads rollers for different types of media. • Measures filter frames in the filter assembly area to obtain the correct paper measurements needed. • Collects paper samples from each mixing tank and takes lab readings such as weight, resistance, tensile strength, and thickness. • Takes equipment readings and completes an Operator's Report. • Continually monitors the speed of the machines and the width of the paper. • Interprets lab results and changes paper mixing formulas based on the results. • Makes adjustments to the machine to make sure the paper meets specifications. • Directs the work of the mixers and inspectors to maintain the production schedule, ensure quality media, promote safety, and maintain the equipment. • Listens to and observes the machine to discover any problems. Schedules maintenance and writes work orders. • Performs minor maintenance on the paper mill including pump rotation and changing the rollers. • Prepares an antifungal chemical for different types of paper. • Trains new operators. • Performs other duties as assigned by management. • Recognizes defects in the media and makes necessary changes. • Interprets lab results from each batch of paper. • Downgrades or rejects paper that does not meet specifications. • Oversees the work of the Paper Mixers and Line Inspectors. • Responsible for obtaining filter frame measurements. Previous machine operating experience is necessary. The position pays $16.50/hr. • **** GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY: This position is responsible for the quality and production of the FFS machines. This position reports directly to the Shift Team Lead. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES: • Operate medical assembly packaging machines (FFS#1, FFS#3) – Rotation Required • Ensure equipment is running within MATTEC parameters • Changeover tooling for each product • Setup and operate printer for labeling and date code information • Change top and bottom web as needed • Assist employees in changing over barrel lube and assembly fixtures • Stage for next job (print plate and fixtures) • Manage the assembly team during the Team Leaders absence • Review and complete DHRs (close job books) • Inspect product and packaging for high quality • Ensure daily production goals are reached and scrap is kept at a minimum • Monitor labor usage and know the proper number of employees are being used during each production run • Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues that create downtime or poor quality • The position would also be required to fill in wherever needed. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Educational Level • High School Diploma or GED Comprehension/Reasoning Skills • This position requires the ability read, comprehend, and follow the Operating Instructions and Manufacturing Specifications for the work being performed by the operator in assembly. Math Skills • This position requires basic math skills. Operator must be able to count parts accurately and perform simple arithmetic functions with assistance from a calculator.
