Impact of the Role General Profile • Requires working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical scientific or operational processes • Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise • Works within standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods • Works with a moderate degree of supervision • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures Essential Functions • Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments. • Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. • Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. • Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. Required Qualifications • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 2-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience Preferred Qualifications • Preferred education: Associate's Degree • Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Mathematical skills. Technical expertise. Manual dexterity. Physical Stamina. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Leadership skills. • Experience: Proven work experience as a Precision Machinist or in a similar role within a manufacturing setting. • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to operate and maintain various types of machine tools. Physical Requirements • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. • May need to stand for long periods of time. • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. • May be requested to work a different shift. • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required. • This position is Safety-Sensitive.
