Position will be responsible for the programming and operation of the CNC lathe. SPECIFIC DUTIES • Write new or install appropriate existing programs per engineering drawings and established procedures. • Perform rough turning and drilling operations per engineering drawings and as directed by supervision and standard procedures. • Set up lathe as required to perform turning and drilling operations. • Select proper feeds and speeds for drilling, turning, and tapping different types of material. • Color code journals for heat treat, plating and balance following turning operation. • Perform finish turning, drilling, and tapping to final dimensions as specified on engineering drawings and standard procedures. • Turn fits as designated on fit slips and stamp corresponding serial number on completed journal. Refer to TES Manual for specific details on press fit, weld prep, etc. • Transfer any heat number alpha codes to fit slip adjacent to identifying serial number. • Identify completed work according to established quality control procedures and move to proper holding area for disposition. • Identify incomplete parts and tag with list of operations required. Move incomplete parts to proper holding area for disposition • Maintain and record time sheets for each operation performed. • Maintain neat and clean working area, including the removal and disposal of machined chips from machine base. Inform supervision of any equipment defects. • Wear and maintain proper safety equipment including proper footwear and safety glasses. • Assist in other areas of manufacturing as required. • Work in a safe manner at all times following established policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • High school education with one to three years specialized training in the machining trades. • Requires the use of shop mathematics together with engineering drawings, specifications, and various types of precision measuring instruments. • One to three years of specific CNC lathe experience is desired. • Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of set-ups, operations and processes within the limitations of established or standard methods and procedures. • Constant alertness and continuous mental and visual attention required to monitor machining process. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 lbs. of force frequently and 10 lbs. of force constantly to move product. • Good, corrected vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. • Strenuous position requires continuous bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, twisting, grasping, hand/finger dexterity, eye to hand and physical coordination. • Significant upper body strength required to turn chuck wrenches and hand wheels.
