The successful candidate for this job will need: • Required to set up and operate a well equipped, well tooled Lathes and Mills to manufacture parts such as but not limited to, shafts, shaft sleeves, couplings, flanges, etc. • Critical diameters on the parts that we make can be as tight as .0005" and non-critical dimensions as loose as .032" while maintaining print required surface finishes. • Our products are machined from a wide variety of materials but the most common are 400 and 300 Series Stainless Steel and a wide variety of steels, bronzes, occasionally plastics. • Being located in the Sunny South the temperature outside can and does get pretty hot. To combat the heat we provide a comfortable work environment and keep our facility air-conditioned to reduce fatigue and make the work day pleasant. • B&S Machine provides ALL micrometers and precision measuring tools. We calibrate and verify these tools in house at regular intervals to insure the accuracy of our final product. • Each Machinist will be required to provide all other tools such as (but not limited to) a good roll around tool box, dial/digital calipers, end wrenches, dial Indicators, deburring knife, Allen wrenches (English and metric), non-marring hammer, etc. Job Info: The workday starts at 7:00 AM. At 8:45 we take a scheduled break. At 9:00 it's back to work until lunch at 11:30. After a 30 minute lunch, we start the afternoon run. The "Final Bell" dings at 3:30. Normally we work 5 days a week. Overtime is always available and sometimes necessary to keep up with shipments and customer demands. Sometimes overtime is required and cooperation is expected. Applicants will be required to take a mechanical aptitude test as well as test to display machining skills. Esse Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation). • Performs specialized repairs to parts and components in accordance with overhaul manuals using various hand and air tools, mills, lathes and various grinders. • Proficiently uses micrometers, height gauges and bore and air gauges and various specialty tools in support of the production schedule. • Reads blueprints to specifications. • Effectively operates and maintains various hand and air tools, mills, lathes and grinders. • Proficiently navigate through company software in order to extract special instructions and accurately log labor. • Holds close tolerance to at least + or - .0005. • Travels as required • Confers with manager to recommend changes such as: equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase efficiency of department and promote improvement • Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy • Works overtime as needed • Other duties as assigned • Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. Safety-glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.) Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job). • Must provide and maintain personal tool box in accordance with Segers’ Tool Control Plan • Must be proficient in using a variety of hand tools, special tools, and GSE required to perform assigned maintenance tasks • Must be able to work in a relatively loud environment. • Must be able to obtain needed information and data from FAR’s, bulletins, drawings, blue prints and maintenance manuals to perform assigned maintenance functions. • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors. • Must be able to work with little supervision and to take some initiative. • Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations. • Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English • Must be able to apply to common sense • Must have basic computer skills to run specific company software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; and be proficient in trigonometry. • Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools effectively. • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all PPE • Must have knowledge of precision measuring tools/equipment. • Must be able to see clearly with or without corrective lenses. • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally. • Must regularly be able to reach overhead. • Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist, stoop and stand. • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally. • Must be able to hear running machinery. • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively. • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination. Experience and Education Requirements: • High School Diploma or GED required. • Three (3) years of experience as a machinist (CNC and manual machining) required. • Tool and die making, CNC operating and manual machinist and grinding experience a plus. • Must pass a criminal background check. • Must pass a DOT FAA pre-employment drug screen and comply with all applicable DOT-FAA regulations. Position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations. • Jaeger and Ishihara eye exam required upon hire. • Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions. Work conditions: Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
