SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The CNC Operator will operate equipment according to established procedures in a safe and quality manner. Dimensional measurements will be required during the operation of equipment to assure compliance to requirements. Adjustments to the equipment will be executed during the operation of equipment to meet established run rates and part accuracy. This involves performing First Piece Inspection and continuous Quality activities. Equipment will include Mills, Lathes, CNC’s and screw machines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Implement and sustain S, Q, D, C, I activities • Develop, sustain and improve CNC machine tool methods and procedures • Assist tool selection in the development and implementation of fixtures for new product development • Develop standard work, tool setup sheets, and standard operations for production jobs • Troubleshoot various problems (improper tooling, dull tools, wrong location of machined feature, code errors, etc.) and develop corrective action to prevent reoccurrence • Perform Quality Assurance activities while operating equipment (Optical systems, calipers, gages, indicators) • Participate in Productive Maintenance activity SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Interpret technical prints (GD&T) • Must have basic knowledge of CNC machine “G-Code” and troubleshooting skills • Experience maintaining and changing tools • Experience determining offsets and adjusting accordingly • Interpret Work Orders and enter data into the Manufacturing database (ERP) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Required: • High School Diploma or GED Preferred: • Minimum 1 year of experience in machining or related mechanical field • Vocational/Technical Degree • Lean manufacturing experience • Kaizen event experience • 5S knowledge and experience LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write, listen and follow instructions. Ability to read blueprints. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Basic shop math and precision measurement skills. REASONING ABILITY Ability to make adjustments as needed by following SOP’s. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Travel will normally be less than 5% (training, equipment development, satellite facility support). OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends. Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process. Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition. Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines. Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency. Diagnose machine tool malfunctions to determine the need for adjustments or repairs. SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS Operate and monitor area equipment throughout the mills and yard to ensure to include: hang-ups with lumber or equipment, position of lumber when reaching next machine center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Set-up, operate and maintain machine centers in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures Clear lumber/equipment hang-ups Ensure lumber is in proper position before arriving at next machine center Clean and align optimizers and change saws and guides as needed Clean workstation and surrounding area making sure it is clean and free of debris Lubricate components as necessary Control machine center input and output, lumber flow and speed Complete production tallies, downtime tallies and daily reports as required Stop or reset equipment or machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a supervisor Assist other operators loading and unloading lumber as necessary Participate in action planning process All other duties assigned by supervisor SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Possess adequate fitness and stamina to conduct strenuous and physically demanding tasks. Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by supervisors. Able to clearly explain problems or give instructions to others involved in keeping operations running smoothly. Able to perform the job with limited supervision. Understand basic mathematical skills. Understand basic machine components and operation, including working around moving mechanical parts and vibrations. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly. Arrive on time and stay on task to contribute to better output and reaching production goals. Able to work well in an industrial environment, and as part of a team. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work a 12-hour shift. Must be able to work overtime. Perform tasks such as walking, climbing, or standing for long periods of time. Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs. Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. Ability to work outside in all conditions. Must be comfortable working around loud equipment. Able to work while in a harness at heights over 4 feet. Able to lift 50 lbs. throughout work shift.
