HVAC Lead Technician

Description Vincennes University has an opening for a HVAC Lead Technician. Operate, maintain and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning of college building equipment. This includes operations of a central heating plant utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating building, and a central chilled water plant to provide cooling to all buildings. You will be required to work regular, perodic emergencies and weekend shifts at any campus when needed. Provides excellent customer service to create a comfortable environment in which to study, teach and learn at all campuses. Duties and Responsibilities • Learn locations of all HVAC equipment and how they relate to each building • Coordinates with assigned supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work order efficiently. • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of the identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs. • Installs heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced safety regulations. • Monitors HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance. • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. • Performs maintenance on HVAC units for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems. • Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment. • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. • Any other duties as assigned. Required and Preferred Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • Must have high school diploma or GED • Knowledge in commercial HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material • Ability to use and hand and power tools associated with the HVAC field. • Ability to operate a tablet • Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license. Position Requirements: • Must have 5 years’ experience or more in commercial HVAC chillers, boilers, and steam operations and maintenance. • Must have basic knowledge of computer operation for use on our energy management and work order systems. • Understand the different type of air distribution systems such as VAV, FCU, AHU, and MAV. • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating. • Computer skills to understand and monitor HVAC controls. • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols. • Problem solving with data frequently requiring independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment. • Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working with constant interruptions; and displaying mechanical aptitude.
