HVAC Technician - Part Time

Title: HVAC Technician - Part Time Division: Finance and Administration Department: Facility Operations and Planning FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: Grade 10: $20.88/hour EEO Job Group: 6 E7 Position Summary The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for HVAC Technician - Part Time. Understands the functions and means of operation of all building and plant heating, ventilating, air conditioning, lighting, communications, and alarm systems and equipment. Capable of adjusting physical and software components/systems to maintain a comfortable environment in all buildings while minimizing energy use. Makes necessary repairs and perform preventive maintenance in a multi-building complex. Duties/Responsibilities • Start, stop, and adjust operations of all on line equipment to include boilers, chillers, air handling units, pumps and ancillary components. • Perform preventive maintenance checks and services. Makes repairs as found when possible. Reports other issues on a work request or to management. • Read gauges, instruments, and recorders. Understands specified limits of readings and how to react when readings are outside of limits. • Respond to emergencies. • Operate radio. • Advise on preventive maintenance measures and on energy conservation methods. • Clean and paint power plant. • Perform service work on equipment in addition to preventive maintenance. • Assist with snow removal and other weather-related events as needed. • Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge and Skills • High school diploma/GED. • Demonstrated judgment in assessing and responding to emergencies required. • Reliability for working with minimum supervision required. • Valid driver’s license required. • EPA certification (Level I and Level II or Universal) required, or ability to obtain within first 90 days of employment. Preferred Knowledge and Skills One year experience in the maintenance or operation of heating, air conditioning, or temperature control systems or related maintenance experience preferred. Education in a related field may substitute for experience. Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements Part-time. Standard hours will be scheduled on first shift, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Travel within University and to offsite University locations using a University vehicle required. Where is the work: This position has been designated as Remote within a Geography and work will be performed within the Greater Evansville, Indiana area. What you will bring: • A High School Diploma or equivalent, or certificate of completion from an accredited technical school is required. Typically requires at least 5-7 years of experience in HVAC/Controls. Technical School or formal training is preferred. • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad). • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: • DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years. • Previous experience with DDC controls system preferred. Additional Requirements and Environmental Exposure • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties • Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands • Must be able to reach your hands over your head • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. (may occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs with special approval.) • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 375 lb. total weight limit, while wearing equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. • Must be able to maneuver access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal • Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet + • This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location Compensation: Base Pay Range: $40 - 50+ / hour Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages.
