From troubleshooting to repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance — you’re the expert our customers trust. Maintenance Technician - HVAC

This position provides support to maintain all district facilities in safe operating order, ensures a preventative maintenance program, documents information, resolves immediate operational and safety concerns, and ensures assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner. In this role, the incumbent will receive mentorship, training, and ongoing support while gaining hands-on experience in the HVAC field. This position offers the opportunity to learn and practice the responsibilities of a Journey-level HVAC role while working towards completing the four (4) years of experience required for the Journey position. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are: • High school diploma or equivalent • Completion of an HVAC technical training education/apprenticeship program, or Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) - HVAC • One (1) or more years of related experience (i.e., Maintenance Worker, Trades Helper, etc.) • Knowledge and understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics • Experience with industry-standard HVAC tools, including electrical meters, torches, diagnostic equipment, refrigerant recovery, and vacuum pumps • Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English • Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and experience using data-based software • Valid Driver’s license and evidence of insurability • Ability to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration. • Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment • Three (3) or more years related experience (i.e., Maintenance Worker, Trades Helper, etc.) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist the Journey HVAC role to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner • Support performing diagnostics, repairs, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration and other support systems; evaluate equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs or replacements • Help conduct repairs and maintenance on various systems, including but not limited to chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, rooftop units, refrigeration units, and digital control systems to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and operational efficiency • Contribute to work in accordance with federal, state, and local codes, manufacturer’s recommendations, and generally accepted HVAC and refrigeration principles • Fabricate specialty items from various metals, wood, and plastic under the direction of a skilled tradesperson to provide needed items in a cost-effective manner • As needed, fill in for the Journeyperson when absent or called away on other projects • Transport various items (e.g., tools, supplies, equipment) to job sites to ensure proper availability of items required by the Journey position • Maintain vehicle and tools in safe operating condition, and stock equipment and supplies to maintain and track adequate inventory levels to ensure availability • Respond to emergency situations to solve immediate safety concerns • Prepare standard documentation (e.g., work orders, purchase requisitions, etc.) to provide written support and convey information • Research various topics (e.g., new topics, code updates, etc.) to remain current in the field • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders • Follow all department and federal safety practices and procedures to ensure a safe and effective working environment • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English, including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds. • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective function of the unit EMPLOYEE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
