EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE: Must have two (2) years’ experience in the heating/air conditioning/refrigeration field. At least one years’ experience with air handling equipment is preferred. CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, BONDING: Must be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency to reclaim Freon and other regulated substances. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasionally works in temperatures ranging from below zero to 140oF. For extended periods, must routinely bend, stoop, squat, lift and manipulate, push, pull, stand, walk, climb and use hand and power tools. May be exposed to various stored energy, some of which could be lethal, such as electrical, mechanical, steam and air. Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, the HVAC Specialist performs the duties peculiar to, and normally required in, the trade of HVAC, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Respond to occupant complaints concerning space comfort levels in a timely manner. • Analyze buildings and operations to determine the optimum utilization of HVAC, electrical, lighting and control systems. • Prepare training programs and instruct in-house personnel in proper HVAC and control systems maintenance techniques. • Develop and maintain CFC equipment and usage logs and assist in developing a CFC phase-out plan. • Provide routine maintenance, repair, replacement and modification of HVAC systems including, but not limited to fans, fan coil units, condensing units, chillers, furnaces, air handlers, VAC boxes, ductwork and associated components, valves, filters, strainers, piping, electrical motors and circuits, controls, fuses and any item required to control such units. • Perform preventive maintenance work on a wide variety of equipment in assigned buildings. • Perform daily mechanical inspection rounds in assigned buildings and log critical information. • Perform other duties as assigned, including periodic maintenance joint ventures with other trades and non-trade specific support of campus functions and special events. • Must positively communicate with students, faculty and staff in completion of duties. • Performs specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and college closures. In the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, serves as “essential personnel” for reopening the college. • Must complete all required training as scheduled. • Must keep accurate and current refrigerant log. • Other duties as assigned.
