Minimum Qualifications • High school diploma or GED equivalency. • Completion of Journeyman Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) certification (with appropriate trade school certifications and completion of apprenticeship training) OR LARA-licensed Mechanical Contractor OR five or more (5+) years of continuous experience, qualifications, and ability to independently service, install and maintain commercial, industrial, and/or residential HVAC equipment. • Refrigeration Transition and Recovery, EPA Section 608 Type III or Universal Certification (please attach proof of certificate). • Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted and insurable driver’s license, pass the college-approved Safe Drivers course, and able to drive a vehicle. • Possess basic computer competence. • Ability to work from heights (on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms), stand for long periods, and move and lift heavy equipment, materials, structures, and furniture. • Able to obtain and maintain a valid forklift license and safely and correctly operate a forklift. • Able to effectively communicate and work in a public environment with a diverse population. • Demonstrated experience working with chillers, boilers, air handlers, hydronics, and/or VFDs. • Demonstrated experience working with manuals, diagrams, blueprints, project layouts, specifications, and troubleshooting. Preferred but not Required • Training, certification, and experience with building management systems, preferably Trane. • OSHA 10 and/or 30 Certifications. • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance in one of the following: school/college/university, plant, or similar industrial environment. Proposed Salary According to the published maintenance salary schedule, Classification Utility III, (2024-2025 hourly rates up to $35.24) as referenced in the Maintenance Union Michigan AFSCME Council 25, Local 331.06 bargaining agreement.
