Wind Technician

What The Role Is Reporting to the Wind Site Manager, the Wind Technician is responsible for assisting in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric component maintenance. The primary objective is to maintain safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operation. Wind Technician levels are defined below, and the ranges will be determined based on the qualifications met. Pay Ranges by Job Level: Wind Technician I ($45,000 - $66,000) Wind Technician II ($52,000 - $74,000) Wind Technician III ($63,000 - $90,000) What You'll Be Doing Level I • Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices and maintain a safe working environment. • Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance. • Documents all work performed, parts used and time spent using computer based service reporting procedures. • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems. • Operate and maintain a service vehicle. • Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized. • Work a flexible on call schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays. • Willingness to progress as a technician and take guidance from superiors. • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision. • Work a flexible on call schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays. • Other duties as assigned within the level I scope Level II & III (additions) • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines. • Assist in the training and development of lower level operation and maintenance personnel. • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair and replacement to correct malfunctions. • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. • Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing. • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary. • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower level technicians in LOTO. • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required. • Other duties as assigned within the level II or III scope respectively What You'll Bring Level I • A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet. Job will require standing outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine. Able to work safely in a confined space. • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record. • Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge. Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires. • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments. • Able to travel as required. • Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools. • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred. • Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work. • Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents. • Able to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group's Qualified Electrical Worker program. Level II (Additions) • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires. • Have an in depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine including the electrical pitch system, computerized control system, and the power conversion unit as well as knowledge and understanding of OEM approved mechanical maintenance methods and practices. • Possess the skills to perform mechanical and electrical equipment repairs. Level III (Additions) • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience If you don't meet 100% of the above qualifications but see yourself contributing, please submit your resume. Wind Services - Field Technician I

Overview: Join the leader! Shermco Industries is the largest independent electrical testing company in North America and has one of the largest, safest & best organized wind generator and motor repair field services and repair shops in the Southwest. Due to continued growth, Shermco is seeking a Field Service Technician to work on electric motors & generators both up-tower in Wind Generators. Responsibilities: • Onsite inspection, testing & reconditioning of electric motors & generators up to 13.2kV in wind towers and industrial sites. • Install and remove electric motors and generators at customer locations. • Service and repair virtually all up-tower wind generator electrical components • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical and hydraulic malfunctions, variable pitch, variable speed turbines. • Perform mechanical repairs on other drive train components, as well as removal and replacement of generators, motors, gearboxes, rotor assemblies and blades. • Install and remove electric motor & generators at customer locations. • Conduct surge, insulation power factor, and hi-potential testing • Perform alignment, precision balancing, calibration, scheduled cleaning and predictive and corrective maintenance services and repair. • Collect vibration data and perform vibration analysis using an analyzer (i.e. CSI). • May occasionally do component replacement on cranes and make bearing changes on gearboxes and generators • May periodically replace or repair breakers and hydraulic pitch systems. Qualifications: • Diploma or certification in Wind Turbine Technology, strong electrical background, or honorable discharge from the military • MUST be willing to travel overnight 80% of the time • MUST have abilities and willingness to climb and work at or above 300+ feet in all types of weather including extreme cold and heat for extended periods of time, adhering to strict safety guidelines, inside and outside of wind turbines. • Prefer 1 year of some mechanical or electrical career experience. • Ability to read drawings, prints & schematics and use multi-meters, amp clamps and basic electrical test equipment and torque tools • Training in TRACTEL or ENSA rescue device desired, or Shermco will provide • Basic computer skills • Must be able to clearly communicate in English via verbal and written methods • Weight restriction of no more than 285 lbs. • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check. • All offers are conditioned on acceptable results from a background check and drug and alcohol screening. • Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam. • Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record. • Must be willing to travel; minimum 40%. • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Traveling Wind Turbine Service Technician 3

Immediate need for Wind Turbine Technicians III with maintenance and troubleshooting experience on wind generator platforms (WTG). As a Wind Turbine Service Technician III, you will be responsible for servicing wind turbine generators throughout North America: • Travel 100% and work at wind farms throughout North America on an 8/1 rotation • Assist, lead and mentor other wind technicians in the performance of their duties • Perform wind turbine maintenance, mechanical and electrical work including but not limited to: • Perform component alignments using mechanical and/or laser • Develop and write work instructions as needed for the performance of duties • Perform LOTO on all sources of energy including switching operations on HV components • Terminate wires based on schematics • Perform work on and mentor other technicians to identify electrical components and motors/generators of a WTG • Perform work on and mentor other technicians on hydraulic components of a WTG • Read, interpret and mentor others on electrical and hydraulic schematics (1-line diagrams) • May be expected to use a borescope on main bearing and gearboxes • May be expected to perform and lead major component replacements (MCE) • Support site management on various punch-list task • Perform torquing and tensioning • Yaw turbines, • Perform and verify that others can charge accumulators • Use amp clamps on energized circuits • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic components • Break-in, quarterly (500 hr), 6-month and annual wind turbine and unscheduled maintenance without supervision including greasing, applying lubricants, verifying accumulator pressures, inspections, calibration tests, etc • Defective parts removal and replacement using proper work instructions • Assist with large component replacement, retrofits, troubleshooting and other special assignments • Continue to develop and expand wind maintenance skillset through on-the-job training and train others in performing service work • Work safely, competently and productively under the direction of others • Keep records, maintain documentation and report technical and safety issues Must meet the following requirements, have or obtain the listed required certifications and training (may be provided) including, but not limited to: • Must have 4+ years of successful service and troubleshooting experience on Wind Turbines • Valid passport preferred • Ability to work an 8-week on, 1 week off rotation • Physically able to safely climb wind turbines up to 120m+ (400+ feet), stand, stoop, walk, crawl, crouch, lift up to 75 lbs. and generally meet the physical demands of the position. • Must have strong experience doing torquing and tensioning • Must have strong experience using a grease gun, doing filter changes • Valid and current driver's license with a satisfactory driving record (satisfactory MVR is required) • Must be 21 years of age to be able to drive a company vehicle • Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English • Prefer certification to call a crane • Satisfactory criminal background check • The following certifications or will train: • GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) - fire awareness, working at heights, manual handling, first aid • GWO BTT (Basic Technical Training) - electrical, hydraulic, mechanical • Siemens Basic Technician Training (Green Profile) • OSHA 10 General Industry • Crane, Chain Hoist and Rigging Safety Training • NFPA 70E Arc-Flash Awareness • Prefer training or experience with Touchscreen Controller Hand Terminals
