Arcosa Marine Products, Inc., is searching for a Senior Level Welder for our Bossier City, LA plant. Our welders get to see the products they’ve built on waterways across the country. As a Senior Welder, you’ll apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches using manual, auto welding, and/or semi-automatic welding equipment. Arcosa’s Inland Barge Group is comprised of Arcosa Marine Products, Inc., a leading manufacturer of barges used to transport cargo on U.S. inland waterways. Arcosa Marine Products manufactures dry cargo barges, including flat-deck and hopper barges, that are used to transport a variety of products including grain, coal, and aggregates. Arcosa Marine Products also manufactures tank barges that carry petroleum, fertilizer, ethanol, chemicals, and other liquid cargoes. It is the largest U.S. manufacturer of fiberglass hopper barge covers used primarily on grain barges. Additionally, Arcosa Marine Products provides a full line of deck hardware to the marine industry, including hatches, castings, and winches for towboats and dock facilities. PURPOSE: Designs, fabricates, joins, and repairs equipment, fixtures, and structures by using various welding techniques. Position Requirements: • Uses the Flux Cored Arc Welding process to tack weld various small components to round or formed shafts to make a pole assembly for the welder to weld. The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts. • Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly. Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station. • Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds. • Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications. • Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. • Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays. • Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts. • Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face. • Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results. • Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols. • Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. • Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. • Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. • Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. • Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. • When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. • Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. • Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. • Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. • Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals. • Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications. • Must know how to properly use a weld gauge. • Read and write. Physical Requirement: • Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift. Lifting, pushing, prying, and dragging heavy materials. • Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet. • Abnormal level of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plugs) be worn at all times. • Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively. • Must be able to work in fast-paced work environment. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials. • Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
