Ship Combo Welder/Fitter - Marine

Job Description: Overview We are seeking a skilled Fitter/Welder with extensive experience working in confined spaces to join our team. This role involves assembling, fitting, cutting, and welding structural steel, pipeline components, and steel members in tight, enclosed environments while following strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate should have strong blueprint reading skills, precision fitting abilities, and expertise in stick (SMAW) and flux core (FCAW) welding. This position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to operate safely under challenging conditions. Duties: · Use and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including supplied air respirators, harnesses, and ventilation equipment when necessary. · Ensure all fitting, cutting, and welding tasks comply with OSHA and company safety standards. · Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, ensuring proper housekeeping in confined spaces. · Perform fitting, cutting, and welding inside confined spaces such as tanks, vessels, silos, and pipelines. · Utilize cutting torches, grinders, and fabrication tools in tight, enclosed areas. · Measure, cut, and fit steel components inside confined spaces, ensuring precision and structural integrity before welding. · Align and secure steel members in hard-to-reach areas, using clamps, wedges, and tack welds. · Troubleshoot welding and fitting challenges in tight or difficult access areas. · Perform stick welding (SMAW) and flux core welding (FCAW) in multiple positions, including overhead, vertical, and horizontal. · Ensure all welds meet structural integrity standards and are free of defects. · Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, and other fabrication tools efficiently. · Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine fitting requirements. · Measure, cut, and position steel components for welding inside and outside of confined spaces. · Safely rig, lift, and position heavy steel pieces using shop cranes and proper rigging techniques. · Work closely with welders, engineers, and supervisors to complete projects efficiently. · Communicate effectively with team members to ensure accuracy and efficiency. (This shall be to assist New Builds and Repairs to existing Marine Equipment) Qualifications and Requirements: · Proven experience working in confined spaces as a Fitter, Fabricator, or Fitter/Welder in an industrial, structural, or pipeline setting · Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings. · Strong skills in measuring, cutting, aligning, and assembling steel components in tight spaces. · Proficiency in stick welding (SMAW) and flux core welding (FCAW) in limited-access areas. · Knowledge of confined space safety regulations, air monitoring, and ventilation requirements. · Experience using fitting tools such as grinders, levels, squares, clamps, and torches in confined spaces. · Ability to safely operate shop cranes and rigging equipment. · Confined Space Entry certification is highly preferred. · Strong communication and teamwork skills. · High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications (AWS, NCCER) are a plus. (i.e. forklift) • Assist in training of Welder/Fitter B’s in the areas of product knowledge, welding techniques and interpreting drawings. • Perform all other duties as required by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
