Job Purpose and Objectives: Performs skilled and semi-skilled mechanical and welding work on small and heavy equipment, and vehicles assigned to the Ellis County Public Works Department. Essential Functions: • Performs acetylene, arc, tig, wire welding, and cutting torch in repair and fabrication of bridges, cattle guards, special tools, small and heavy equipment, and vehicles • Fabricates new equipment and special tools when needed • Inspects, repairs, and sets up new small and heavy equipment and vehicles added to the fleet • Operates the lathe and mill when required for fabrication and repair • Maintains inventory of welding supplies including wire, gas, and steel • Maintains metal recycling bin with contracted servicer • Repairs engines, transmissions, drivelines, hydraulic systems, and brakes on equipment and vehicles • Disassembles defective equipment and vehicles and replaces defective parts • Operates all equipment and vehicles • Performs field repairs on work location • Cleans the shop area and stores tools • Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances • Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary • Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures • Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed • Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic Position Requirements and Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
