Job Designation: Performs a wide range of routine to complex manual, automatic and/or semiautomatic welds utilizing a variety of equipment on high temperature and high strength metal alloys. Job Core Responsibilities: Under limited supervision and following established procedures, responsibilities may include some or all the following duties: • Perform a variety of approved Parker certified welding techniques. • Read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols, and quality requirements. • Make adjustments, within procedural limits, to fine-tune the process to achieve conformance standards. • Ability to discover/detect defects as well as analyze and take corrective action. • Maintain work area and equipment in an organized, clean, and foreign object damage (FOD)-free manner. • May section hardware on request for acceptance evaluation, otherwise will obtain first article inspection on sample hardware before continuing with production lot. • Computer proficiency as required to load programs, view work instructions and e-mail. • Obtain and maintain all required qualifications and certifications in all appropriate metals. • Understand general and weld specific safety issues. • Inspects hardware to ensure specifications are met, by visual inspection and measuring devices. • Ability to follow and apply the welding rework procedure as prescribed in the CMM (Component Maintenance Manual) • Document and log all parts as necessary and maintain all required paperwork in an accurate and current manner. • Successful completion of weld inspection training and can successfully identify weld defects. • Proper use of inspection tools and functional gauges. • Reads production schedule and specifications to ascertain product to be fabricated. Follow work instructions as written. • Know location of, and how to access current procedures. • Properly fill out applicable shop paperwork. • Maintain a satisfactory high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements. • Actively implements lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area. • Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area. • Maintain appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilize this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments. • Performs other related responsibilities, as directed. • Assist and/or instruct others in daily activities as needed. • Read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols, and quality requirements. Job Specifications Education: Desired vocational training or equivalent relevant education and or work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations. Highschool diploma required. Experience: A minimum of 4-6 years full time welding experience, preferably in TIG or equivalent certification and/or training. Skills • Ability to complete gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) of various alloys, at varied thicknesses, dimensions, and positions. • Obtain and maintain certification to AWS D17.1 or other applicable standards in all appropriate metals. • Compliant with NADCAP and other applicable code requirements for welding. • Basic knowledge of base and filler materials applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, procedures, and drawings. • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations. • Adaptive to variable workload and a broad range of job tasks • Skilled in working independently in a timely manner to meet customer commitments. • Must possess good manual dexterity, reliable judgment, and possess a willingness to learn. • Able to effectively apply lean initiatives. • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment. • Must have strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate to the team in a timely manner. • Effectively demonstrates team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities. • Must demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge; must take initiative to cross-train and sustain acquired skills. • Must have demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability to support production and customer needs. TYPICAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have good manual dexterity and is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel parts and machinery. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; the use of hands and fingers to write, operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
