As a welder at Sidump'r, you will have the opportunity to lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble quality side dump trailers and/or feeding systems using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. Essential Duties May Include: • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions • Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment • Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper • Maintain proper equipment; repair when needed • Weld parts in flat, vertical, and/or overhead positions • Interpret drawings and plans; carry out work accordingly • Produce templates (jigs) and other work aids • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using the proper tools/equipment. • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring equipment • Follows the schedule established to meet drawing needs • Understand the Global Software Program and provide ideas/solutions to concerns • All other duties as assigned for operational effectiveness Knowledge, Skills, Experience Needed: To be successful in this position you will be a quick learner, safety minded, self-driven disciplined, and have a high standard of quality. Most importantly you will have genuine interest in working in a team environment and willingness and ability to learn and perform other jobs. The ideal candidate for this position must pass an in-house welding test, ability to read blue prints, effectively manage their time, and have excellent communication skills. How you will contribute Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Welder position in the Columbus facility. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. A thorough knowledge of welding procedures and practices are essential to ensure the quality of the product. Additionally, you will… • Work from blueprints and layouts to accurately fit structural parts or components together in shop in preparation to welding • Lay out guidelines or marks on metal parts and cut metal with a cutting torch • Weld metal structural components together in the fabrication of steel electrical poles, substations, and other structures • Adjust welding equipment to its prescribed settings • Move pole shafts using an overhead crane and gather parts and materials to complete the project • Utilize all safety devises and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment • Perform other duties as directed by leaders and management • Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures What it takes Required Qualifications • Must have weld experience – preferably MIG welding • The ability to read a tape measure • Must excel in a team environment • The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner • The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment • Able to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality and attendance as determined by Management. Summary: The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. The welder will be required to complete small/simple fabrications and large complex fabrications to specifications. The Welder is required to comply with all MPI policies. Duties and Responsibilities: • Read and comprehend product blueprints and layouts to accurately fit structural parts together in shop in preparation to welding • Understand American Welding Society standard symbols • Plan details of work order procedures; gather required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job • Lay out guidelines or marks on metal parts and cut metal with a cutting torch • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment. • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded • Weld metal structural components together in the fabrication of stainless steel, aluminum, and other structures • Perform first piece inspections as well as all subsequent inspections as required by RMF standards • Adjust welding equipment to its prescribed settings • Utilize safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment • Operates power tools • Operate forklift if needed once certified • Change gas tanks as needed • Perform simple maintenance repairs as required • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered • All other duties assigned Required Qualifications: Experience: 1 year of relevant experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: • Time Management • Problem Solving Skills • Good understanding of basic mathematics Ability to: • Read blueprints • Read measuring devices (Tape Measures, ) • Work alone with little to no direction • Read and follow written and verbal instructions • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner • Use proper personal protective equipment Strength Level: 25-40 pounds • **anything over 40 pounds will need two people or lifting assist device*** Central Confinement Services LLC and Mid-Plains Industries are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
