Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards • Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operation. • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using a variety of measuring tools. • Tack-weld or welds component and assemblies using welding equipment. • Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor. • Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments. • Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file. • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. • Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. • Other duties, as assigned by Welding Supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT • Must be capable of standing for entire shift and sit for extended periods of time. • Able to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to demonstrate full range of motion for reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping. • Will be exposed to extreme heat and cold depending on weather. • Subject to dirt, dust, oil, welding fumes, electric shock, bright lights, UV radiation, burns, traffic hazards, and high noise levels in the workplace. Ppe Requirements • Steel-toed shoes or composite shoes • Safety glasses • Earplugs • Gloves when handling any material • Welding Helmet (Company doesn’t provide helmet but provides all consumables including lenses.) • Grinding shield • Welding sleeves Minimum Qualifications & Requirements • High School Diploma or GED. • Must be able to read, write, count, communicate by various channels. • Must have appropriate high school, vocational-technology school, or trade school training/certification in welding and/or demonstrated ability/expertise from on-the-job training from previous employment. • Understand fundamentals of metallurgy as they relate to welding. • Ability to read a tape measure. • Ability to read and fully comprehend work instructions, prints, and work specifications.
