Structural Steel Welder Job post summary Job description: Extreme Steel, Inc. is a growing AISC certified miscellaneous metals/ structural steel fabricator and erector in the DC, VA & MD areas. We are currently looking for full-time motivated individuals interested in metal fabrication and welding. Primary duties include: • Welding, forming, rolling, grinding, cutting and sanding metal, and general labor. • Measuring, laying out, aligning, and fitting fabricated metal work according to blueprints. • Positioning metal work with overhead crane or forklift. • Preparing steel for welding using grinder, etc. • Welding in accordance to the blueprints and specifications. • Finishing metal work (clean slag, splatter, or excess weld) • Cleaning and housekeeping activities. High school diploma or GED preferred (but not required). One year of welding experience is required to be considered for this position. Day shift hours are 4am – 2:30pm Monday – Friday, with occasional Saturdays Second shift hours are 2pm-12:30am Monday – Friday, with occasional Saturdays Compensation will be determined based on experience and skill level. The overall responsibilities of a Welder - Erection include: • Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. • Weld connection of precast/prestressed members • Able to perform daily maintenance on the welding machine. • Able to signal crane • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight edges, combination squares, calipers and rulers. • Examine workplaces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common the the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and welding equipment. • Must be willing to travel and stay out of town through workweek, as well as work hours deemed necessary to keep job on schedule. • Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations. • Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
