We are seeking a dedicated welder who is responsible for fabricating and assembling steel structures by interpreting technical drawings, operating welding and metalworking equipment, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards in a dynamic construction environment. Duties and Responsibilities • Erect ladders and scaffolding to assemble large structures. • Design and construct templates and fixtures using hand tools. • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal. • Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine material requirements and task sequences. • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or assemble metal components. • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to ensure specifications are met. • Tack-weld fitted parts together. • Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches. • Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces using measuring devices. • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications. • Align parts or workpieces for proper assembly. • Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements. We are looking for a qualified 1st shift Welder. Pay range of $26.78-$28.82. You will perform a variety of tank car repairs according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches. You will utilize various equipment and technology including air arc cutting torches and stick or wire welding, grinding tools, I Pads, etc. Primary Job Functions This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions. • Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc. • Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment. • Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter. • Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools. • Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required. • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards. Knowledge and Skills Required • Welding experience or education is required. • Must pass the applicable welding test, as prescribed by the company. • Must possess a High School Diploma/GED; or have the ability to successfully complete an on-site basic skills assessment. • Must possess job-related knowledge; for example, ability to follow work instructions on a document, ability to read a ruler and tape measure, ability to use hand tools. • Must be dependable and maintain good attendance; must have reliable transportation; must be able to work scheduled work shifts including overtime. • Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, position-specific examinations, background screening, and education verifications. Environmental and Working Conditions • Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces. • Must be able to work from heights equivalent to the top of tank/railcars. • Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car while welding. • Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards. • Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury. • Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter.
