As a Welder, you will perform welding operations to assemble and secure sheet metal for electrical and industrial equipment, according to engineering drawings and specifications. What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities) While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications. • Welds or tack welds metal parts together, using tig welding, mig welding, or spot welding equipment. • Removes rough spots from workpiece, using grinder, sander, or saw. • May be trained and tested to be ASME certified. What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education) We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has: Required Experience • One to three months related experience and/or training • Ability to correctly read a tape measure. • Ability to read engineering drawings. • Knowledge of tig welding, mig welding, and spot welding equipment and techniques. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Tig welding, Mig welding, and stick welding certification • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Travel & Working Environment • Employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. Travel Structural Welder - Newport News, VA ($140 Per Diem) Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Welder to assist in the new construction of Naval aircraft carriers and submarines. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in pulse arc welding and be proficient in various welding processes. This position requires the ability to perform in physically demanding environments, such as shipboards and sub-assemblies. Responsibilities • Perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P processes. • Adhere to OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry. • Execute Air Carbon Arc Gouging. • Use fillet and butt weld gauges accurately. • Pass all position, multi-pass butt weld, and welder qualification tests. Essential Skills • Four years of experience as a first-class welder. • Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P welding processes. • Experience working in physically demanding environments including shipboards and sub-assemblies. • Familiarity with OSHA regulations for the shipbuilding industry. • Ability to use fillet and butt weld gauges accurately. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Proficiency in Air Carbon Arc Gouging. • Ability to pass all position, multi-pass butt weld, and welder qualification tests. • Experience with shipyard welding processes and procedures.
