Solar Lead Installation Technician

Posted Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 6:00 AM Overview The Lead Installation Technician – Solar is responsible for all aspects of ground and roof mounted solar PV system installation, working independently or as a crew leader. Responsibilities also include communication with customers, vendors and utility representatives, inventory management and training and supervision of installation crew members. Responsibilities • Schedule, coordinate materials, and supervise (contract installations by contractor, as part of an in-house crew or as a solo endeavor) the installation of ground and roof mounted solar PV systems. • Train installation technicians in the performance of solar installations, safety requirements and proper care and use of equipment. • Provide field supervision to crew members, including motivating and directing work, providing input for performance evaluation, and recommending corrective action as needed. • Read and interpret installation plans and construction documents. • Measure, locate structural members and correctly mount racking in a weatherproof manner. Operate machinery which can include, but not limited to, a skid steer, backhoe, motorized trenching equipment and related equipment to prepare installation area to design specifications, including excavation for trenching, piers, and foundations, pouring concrete and anchoring racking. • Quantify, order, place, and finish concrete as it relates to possible installation type of a solar PV racking system. • Use tape measure, levels, transit and other survey tools to properly execute grading/excavation work and installation of system. • Communicate with customers in a professional manner to schedule and install projects. • Schedule, communicate, and catalogue communications with utility locate requests for underground utilities when appropriate. • Gather, load and transport materials and equipment to the worksite as required. • Verify materials (bill of materials) are appropriate for the given project and agree with the other construction documents. • Understand, enforce, and comply with accepted safety practices in a variety of jobsite conditions. • Ensure thorough completion of project, signing off and reporting to management when project is complete. • Maintain an organized service vehicle and jobsite. • Perform inventory cycle counts of stored materials and service vehicles. • Use computer software to communicate, enter/approve time, send and receive project information, enter credit card transaction information as it relates to non-inventoried procurement of items, and submit mileage logs. • Follow posted work schedule and adhere to proper clocking procedures to accurately reflect hours worked. • All employees are expected to know and adhere to company and position specific policies and procedures. While this job description contains the primary duties of the position, employees may be expected to perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements • High School Diploma or equivalent • OSHA 10 certification, or ability to acquire certification within 6 months of hire • Proven track record of operating lifts and material handling equipment • Experience with use of powered and non-powered hand tools including, but not limited to, impact drivers, drills, saws, cutting/grinding tools, ladders, and concrete finishing tools. • Familiarity with carpentry methods as it relates to roof mounted installations. • Ability to read, interpret, understand, and follow construction documents and technical manuals associated with equipment being installed. • Strong problem solving and organizational skills. • Ability to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery including Microsoft Office products. • Ability to safely and effectively operate a trailer as an extension of a pickup truck. • Ability to work independently, lead, or work as a member of a team. • Ability to measure and perform mathematical calculations to best utilize materials and follow installation plans. • Ability to safely operate equipment to perform light excavation for trenching and concrete work piers and footings. • Ability, willingness and agility to work on elevated…
